Short biography

J.D. James Cramer (pseudonym James J. Cramer), born 1955-02-10, is an American lawyer.

He is also a former Goldman Sachs financial advisor, a shareholder, a former CNBC Kudlow & Cramer co-host with Lawrence Kudlow, CNBC Mad Money host, and director and shareholder of TheStreet.com, a company publicly traded on the NASDAQ Stock Market with the stock symbol TSCM. He is a Philadelphia Eagles and Monopoly fan.

Cramer grew up in the town of Wyndmoor in Pennsylvania, outside Philadelphia. His mother was a sculptress. He sold ice cream at Veterans Stadium during Philadelphia Phillies games.

Cramer went to Harvard Law School, but preferred to read the Wall Street Journal while in class. He was the main editor of the Harvard Crimson. He graduated in 1984.

He has an encyclopedic knowledge of equity securities. This is apparent during his "Lightning Round" segment on Mad Money where he quickly and accurately analyzes stocks suggested by callers.

He worked for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner. While living in Los Angeles, he went on vacation to Las Vegas and lost lots of money, and his house was burglarized, so he lived at an acquaintance's home and in his car with an ax and a gun. On top of it, he got hepatitis.

Cramer worked for Goldman Sachs, and then started his own hedge fund with his office in the eighth floor at 100 Wall Street.

Cramer got married in 1988 to his wife, who he used to call the Trading Godess until their first of two daughters was born in 1991.
