Estate Tax - Non stock question

Someone explain to me why those pinheads in DC have a estate tax, or at least for normal people who arent Bush or Trump, why do normal people have to pay it? Its like a double tax or triple tax, sometimes I really dislike what our Govt is

It's really sad there are so many taxes and we spend so much energy trying to make everything perfectly fair. A flat tax is the best for everyone.

Greed - pure and simple. The must figure you don't need the money anymore, they might as well help themselves. Bunch of crooks. Estate tax taken from my grandfather will prolly be in the neighborhood of $10-15MM. Makes me sick that the government can do that.

They do it to pay for all the stuff that we DEMAND of them..

Wars all over the world (and the equipment to wage them)
Prescription drugs
Social security
Medicare
Interest on debt

that consumes about 75 cents of every dollar , right there... .those five things.

Which one do you want to cut??

Now, if only we could get the American people to vote for people that feel the same way.

We spend $1.5 BILLION in Iraq EVERY WEEK.. that's JUST Iraq.. not counting Afghanistan.

$1.5 Billion costs every AMerican, including babies, the mentally ill, the elderly etc (who obviously aren't paying much in taxes) an average of $5... EVERY WEEK... or $260/year.

Another way to think of it is, every family of four in America pays $1000 a year to fight the war in Iraq.

The 50K used to pay a clever accountant who helps put the funds into a tax shelter or similar is an investment well made.

Or he can liquidate slowly and start sending you checks for 9999K which you desposit with your bank and dont need to claim as income, winnings or a gift since it just under the legal limit of 10K. Once he's below the estate tax limit you're mostly in the clear.

The war sucks, and people say it's good for our economy. That's BS. It could only be good for our economy if it was a quick war that didn't cost several lives and several billions a week for five-and-counting years.

Bush is trying to make a name for himself by saving another country. He doesn't care how many soldiers die a week for his name. He doesn't care how much in debt he's putting the nation in. What is really sad is that he couldn't even save those people in Iraq if he had a lifetime to do it in.

I just hope that when the next Republican nominee uses the war as propaganda in their campaign, that people aren't dumb enough to vote for them. We need a more conservative approach to our problems. We need someone who will concentrate on the issues at home and not overseas.

I have driven through New Orleans, LA and Gulfport, MS lately, and the rebuilding going on there is very slow. I was really saddened when I drove through Gulfport a couple days ago. I saw the place where I stayed in a hotel and ate at Olive Garden. The only traces left of either of those places was a sign over a sandy area that said Olive Garden. I didn't even see a sign of the hotel that I stayed in. That money that we're using on war should be used in electric car research and engineering. It should be invested in a new Electric infrastructure with more power plants. Furthermore, it should be invested in helping those areas most devastated by Katrina.

I was appalled by our president saying he flew over in his private jet three days after the storm to weigh the damage. He couldn't stop his vacation short to get the army in to New Orleans to help. Some of the doctors that I knew at Charity had to fend for themselves in boats trying to get out of New Orleans. How sad is it that all those doctors were starving and dying of thirst when the President was on vacation in Texas? I watched flight 93 recently. They were trying to get an OK from the president to shoot down the planes flying towards the Pentagon. He was sitting in a classroom in Florida (convienent, as he knew something was going to happen) reading a book. When they asked him what to do, he just sat there dumbfounded...like duh...I guess I'll keep reading this children's book.

I almost wanted to leave the country out of embarrassment of our stupidity for voting Bush the second time. I really thought there was no way he could win. Sixty five percent of the nation thought we shouldn't be in the Iraq war, but a majority of the nation voted for him. I guess the majority of the country is really not smarter than our president....HMM? These last 6 years have been horrible for our country!!! Only 2 more years of sufferring. I can't wait till 2008!

I don't know your situation but did your Grandfather do any estate planning? I'd rather donate a portion of the money to a non-profit or a local university as opposed to paying all that tax.

Doesn't the estate tax only affect people with greater than $5Million in assets?

My biggest problem with the Republican wing of politics is that they support BORROW and SPEND policies, which are actually WORSE than the Democrat's TAX and SPEND.

I mean, if you're going to spend like a drunk sailor, its better to "pay as you go" than to run up a huge debt, which means you'll have to pay off the interest in the future.. Just one more obligation to pay.


My Republican friends oppose nearly ALL taxes... Just ask a Republican these questions:

1. Which tax are you in favor of?? Which tax do you feel should be raised in order to balance the budget and pay for the war?


Find me one that can answer that , and you'll find a person who isn't a Republican.
