Default Cruise ships

Last night, the governor of LA was on Larry King and said they are considering using cruise ships to help house people down there and FEMA is working on it. Good idea, eh?

Right now, they have thousands of workers either there or on their way there to repair the power lines, phones, infrastructure, etc, and no place to put them. Don't know if that's who will be using them, but it makes a lot of sense to me.

Cruise ships still tempting to me. RCL started running commercials nationwide highlighting the surf at sea onboard feature of Freedom Of The Seas that won't even sail for nine months yet. CCL is scarrier, since Infinity Four Trust (insider) has been dumping $2 million a day for the past two months, though it was up today, and RCL was down again. Past few days it seems to trade lower near the middle of the day kind of like a string of pearls hanging on the open and close. Maybe I'll put in my limit around 42 and test the water as a Cramer contrarian play. Only a little to begin, then average down on dips, if it keeps falling.

Well, for better or worse, RCL hit my $42 mark. I at least take some comfort that it is 14% plus under the Jun30 boomer show. I hope Jim changes his mind again and gives it a thumbs up. Guess people are supposed to watch close enough to know that his is in fact bearish on it, regardless of what the re-run said last night.

I'll bet if more people find out FEMA is considering using cruise ships for temporary housing, that would help.

Default re: cruise lines

They hired three from CCL and the stock fell, even though no one knows how much or how little FEMA is going to pay. Knee jerk reaction.

I think the ultimate Katrina play would have leveraged to Baton Rouge or Houston. Real estate, mobile homes, moving companies?

Initially I thought officials were going to commander cruise ships to use as shelter. Under the law, authorities can use whatever private property they see fit to ensure the safety and well being of the general population.

I read about a group of tourists that paid $25 k for a fleet of buses to take them to safety; yet they were commandered by officials. I didn't hear about any refunds.

What about a satellite phone play? Could more cities order them as they realize land lines and cell phones don't work in catastrophes?

Cruise ships for temporary housing has been put on hold. It was on the news this morning. Surrounding states may benefit from all the people relocating there.

Motorola makes satellite phones.

They wouldn't have had to commandeer the tourist buses if the mayor had thought to use the hundreds of school buses they had to evacuate people before the hurricane, now all the buses and people are sitting under water, instead. Good plan.
