Default Could We Bookmark a Thread?

Thierry,

I wonder if the forum software offers any ability for a member to bookmark a thread. Here are two example where, imo, it would be useful.
  1. I usually select "New Posts" from the forum top-bar menu to see what posts went up since I logged in last. Sometimes there will be a post that I would like either to answer or to study more, and then I am faced with a choice. I either deal with it in that current login session, or I have to make a note of where it is. That thread will not show up again the next time a login unless there is yet another new post to it. It would be really handy for me to be able to 'tag' that thread/post as one I'd like to come back to.

  2. Some threads have really good information that I'd like to come back to again and again. If everyone feels that way about a thread, then it is a good candidate for a sticky. But if the subject is somewhat narrow, then making the thread sticky might just clutter up a sub-forum. Again, this is something I would like to bookmark.
There are alternative concepts to 'bookmarks' here.
I could have a personal 'sticky' list.
I could have a 'favorites' list, if I could place a thread on that list.
I'm sure you get the idea.

I have no idea what features are available in your forum software. If this feature that I suggest is not available, then I understand that you can't make it happen...of course, you could relay my request to the forum software folks.

Thanks for having a place where we can post questions, suggestions, and feedback.

At the bottom of every thread there is a bookmarks box, with some of the popular bookmarking sites listed. Just create an account there, and all you have to do to bookmark a thread is to click on the name of the service (free) you belong to. Most of them will populate your bookmark with the title and even give you an option to add a description.

Another solution would be to subscribe to all the threads you want to bookmark and then you can just view your subscribed threads to see the ones you have marked. Of course, you will receive notifications when there are new posts.

Thanks, Thierry. I'll try both methods and see how they feel.

I'm sure someone is going to wonder why, if I wanted to bookmark a page in a thread, I didn't just use the bookmark system in my browser.

The answer is simple:
I didn't think of that.
More accurately, I didn't think of thread bookmarking in the same way as I think of site bookmarking. What I want to do was have a bookmarking system exclusively for threads and posts. I have a feeling that using an external bookmark service for OTF links will let me keep these links separately organized, and not intermixed with bookmarks of other flavors.

BTW: I figured the "bookmarks box" you pointed out was just advertising.
It never crossed my mind that it might actually be useful...my bad.

In the "Be careful what you ask for" catagory — "Poorly formed question" department, I found the piece to this puzzle that I didn't realize I was missing.

In the upper right corner of each post in a thread is a number [the post number, I assume]. Clicking on that brings up the post in its own url. Bookmarking the post [and not the thread page] gets me back to the exact spot I wanted to remember.

Made use of this method the first time bookmarking TheChartGuru's generous sharing of how he screens for stocks to watch.

There are a number of posts that are nuggets like this lying about on the OTF.
Being able to bookmark them by individual post helps me to remember and to share.

The link you posted was corrupt and I removed it. It was a yahoo bookmark I believe, with some added characters.

Here is what you were trying to post. The full URL is visible in your browser's address bar if you click on it.

Based on this thread, I DL'd a couple of Post-it Note programs. Copy/paste to a note and it can float to where ever you want it. Good for keeping it on top of a working screen, without the back and forth.
