Default weekly trade

3 people asked me to post my positions but its too hard to manage the different positions i hold especially because holding times vary so this post will be my buys/shorts to hold for 1-5 days. i prefer to use options but since it really depends on various factors, ill just post the security and entry/exit targets

MA close or lower/192
AMZN close or lower/85
SOLF close or lower/28

actually might be a good time to buy calls on SPY

id go in 2 strikes down, out to next month or march. whatever youre looking to put in, i'd probably go 1/3 in today for a hopeful run tomorrow and if we get a pull back.. go in on fridays close with the other 2/3

Hi KT,
What do you think of these Puts for the coming week?:

I'd like to learn about using options as insurance or as an inexpensive leveraged short position. DSTI & BQI are still overvalued, and both are way below their stop prices. I think Reef did the right thing by shorting BQI this coming week. I'm thinking maybe it would be wise to buy DSTI Feb 16 puts for $.20 and/or BQI Feb 16 $2.50 puts for $.10, because I don't think the fall is over for either one. That's $20.00-$10.00 per hundred shares (Respectively, before any commissions), so if they go down next week by 10%, then $.10 BQI Puts should be worth $.75-1.00 and $.20 DSTI Puts should be worth well over $1.00. It seems like $100.00 now hedges 500-1000 shares, even after commissions, but it is important to watch the spread on options between bid and ask, because you start off in the hole between the bid and the ask price!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, or add what you know, according to my calculations for DSTI, if it goes down and then $100.00 worth of $.20 puts, turns into $500.00, then that covers and protects against a loss of up to $1.00 per share on 500 shares. So if DSTI goes down to anywhere close to $3.00 you still make money, and if it goes up instead then you make that gain, and it cost $.20 per share to protect a 10-20% loss. So will it go down more than 10% before Feb 16? I believe it will. IMHO.

I'm just thinking out loud trying to learn about using options as insurance, or for leveraged Shorts. It seems like a good deal for a month of insurance, and the put value will go up if the stock goes down. Any thoughts or advice on this??

hey kev

sorry i didnt get back to you.. ive been really busy lately with trades. been making a lot of money in this market

as for dsti, too many down days, time for a strong up day.. id go long into it

as for options on dsti, id never recommend buying any options on a stock under $20. first you have to deal with the spreads since its a cheap stock the spread would probably be 5¢ or 10¢ which is a big deal on a stock like that

some good stocks to buy calls on right now are MO and VOD

sorry if im rushing but i gotta get up early but youre right about the $500..
as for pulling down more than 10% its very possible. however, i never like to buy puts on a long position. i would rather sell calls against the position or get out of the position all together

but right now dsti looks like a good buy to the upside to jump out of this week

Good job. Thanks for keeping us posted! It looks like eBay took a bite out of the proverbial AAPL.
