Default New to the markets

Hello guys, i really got interested in this trading business like 1 month ago. But before i start doing things, i want to read a lot. Im currently reading a book called " How to make money in stocks" By William J. Oneil. I kind of have some questions to ask. How many kind of traders are out there? Like active day trader? swing trader etc? Also i will like for you guys to explain the online trading. I'm a little comfused about that. I've seen some website like E*trader and Scottrade, that they charge like fees, and that each trade is like 6.99 to 9.99. Its kind of confusing at this point. Also please explain what can you do with the markets websites like the nasdaq, DJIA etc. Do you trade there also, or is just for research purposes. I'm planning to research and do alot of book reading before i start investing. I would say about a year researching. Does it sound like alot? Thanks for your responses, and i hope i will be here in this forum for a long time.
