Default Tracking Your Investments

I would like a better solution for tracking my investments. Scottrade's Gainskeeper is not doing what I need it to, nor is Yahoo! or Google.

I obviously want to see my daily & overall gain/losses for each of the stocks I currently own. I also want the total gain/losses number to factor in sales that I have made so that I can really see where I am in terms of overall returns. In Yahoo! & Google, I enter a sell transaction and it does not seem to factor my profits or losses from this sale in.

Any help or knowledge of solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Merrill online has realized and unrealized gains for all trades and positions and does all the record keeping for you with a spreadsheet if you want it. Plus monthly and quarterly detailed reports and a yearly with download into any of the tax programs or excel.
E-trade pro does most of the same things.

Thanks for this info. I am looking for something that I can use without having to switch my account out of Scottrade. Do you know of a solution for this?

Have you tried building a simple spreadsheet?

Stock
Date purchased
price/share
# of shares
price toatl w/comish
price/share w/comish
date sold
sold price
sold price w/comish

Really pretty easy and easy to tweak as needed.
Also, you can ad columns for long vs short holds (tax purposes)
Have the columns autosum totals for $ and % gain.

PM me if you need help.

Also, for a day-to-day update on your portfolio (as well as overall tracking of open positions) go to marketwatch.com and build a portfolio. Membership is free and the portfolio build is simple.

I like it because I can access from any internet connection and get a quick glimpse of my long term hold's performance for the day or overall. Too easy!

Did you find what you needed?

Check out "Maret watch" beta portfolio. Nice addition to a useful site.
