In Merrill Lynch's 10 investment themes for 2007 Rich Bernstein recommended vaccine plays. On a global view and a US view these plays seem to make sense. I have Merck in my international portfolio but it's so big I don't see it reacting much to the Gardisil situation. Anyone playing the smaller manufacturers? And how do you protect against some chinese company manufacturing the vaccines and undercutting the price? It's also a pretty much international play as the majority of the companies are offshore.
Any opinions?

Well most of the public thinks the $350 price tag a pop for the cervical cancer vaccination is outrageous and if there is another cheap alternative out there; this would totally kill Merck.

Something I found:

"The FDA is expected to rule against NVS in approving the diabetic drug GALVUS by asking for more data. The ruling when issued by the end of this month will delay the final approval hence good news for MRK's Januvia.

And an article on Merck dated from Dec. 06':

i like medi below 30, maybe less. medimmune has licensing agreements for key technology in the HPV vaccines of both Merck and GlaxoSmithKline. i think the short term play is over.
