Because hedge funds have too much access to priveledged information. Doctors with inside information on clinical trials are routinely hired by hedge funds to "advise" on investment opportunities and risks.

Great article.

However, who would agree with me that its possible to still invest in them if one does the hum drum homework.

example, watch the percentage of shorts, maybe on a daily bases. IF it goes up maybe its a warning sign.

Any other idea's how to protect oneself after reading this informative article?

They do tend to be lotto tickets. I'd advise people to use only Mad, Mad, Mad Money on small biotech companies. I'm too conservative to gamble on them.
