Hello everybody, my name is Ron and i'm a tradaholic. It's been 1 week since my last trade and right now I could really use another trade bad. Not true!!! as of yet, but I can visualize this happening with relative ease.

I'm 43, living in Rio de Janeiro, teaching private English classes and I'm really starting to enjoy my life. Up until about 4 months, I was content with my life, but at the same time, felt I was missing something. Then one of my students showed me how he makes his money. He now recieves English classes for free to say the least and I am completely obsessed with the whole aspect of trading. I hope to be a full time trader by the middle of next year. As for now Mon, Wed and Fridays will have to do.

A big thanks to Chinaman, Englishman26, Microhedge, Thierry for all you informative posts and the rest of you who demonstrate respect and patients for all of us rookies.

Anyone interested in visiting Rio, let me know.
Ron,

Hello,
I'm a Newbie to the Forum and trading still in the initial learning stages and haven't yet, as of today even made the first trade.
I found this forum searching out info on a penny stocks newsletter I subscribed to and I plan on hanging around. :)

I am unemployable due to "disability". My work experience has been everything from priming and hanging Tobacco to cleaning the grates at the Sewage treatment plant when I was a teenager to being a Marine Corps Drill Instructor to a Nuclear Safety Officer.
Anyway, at 51 years old here is where I am today, learning how to read a chart and make an online Penny Stock trade through my shiny new LowTrades account. ;)
(somehow this all seems like TMI)

My name is Mike and I am a tech for Verizon who is looking for a better way! I started researchin about a year ago and find the Market very fascinating and have started to follow options in hopes that I could get involved with a smaller amount of money. I have paper traded for 9 months now and think I have seen some great trading ideas but am looking for reassurance and info on where to do research. Any help would be greatly apprecciated.

Hi,

This forum has provided me with a wealth of knowledge these past several months in terms of stock investments. It's also nice to catch all of Cramer's recent picks if I missed his show(s). Thanks to all of you who are providing your insights. I'm done lurking -- so I thought I'd join officially to ask my questions!

Hello. Early 40's dad w/ 2 grade school kids and a wife. Have been investing since I was 17 but trading only for the last 2-3 years. Will soon be retiring from current job w/ a small pension and am considering trying to make a living as a trader, at least for a while, until my wife gets tired of having me at home all the time!

Welcome Ruki.

Do you use elitetrader.com ?

If you are considering seriously trading for a living, you may find this forum a little more geared to "investing" or position trading despite the name of the forum.

There are many talented and intelligence posters with different methods, some of which may actually get disclosed.

Good luck and search through ET for full time trader threads.....there are plenty. In particular...search for Anekdoten.

Hi everyone, my name is Monica and I'm just getting back into the trading game. In the internet boom a few years back I did pretty well. But I was young (19), stupid, and greedy. I actually took 60K out of my home and invested it. Brought it up to about 120k and then lost it all. So, I swore that I would never ever touch the market again! So here I am, touching the market again. ewwww.

Anyway, this time I'm coming in with my own hard earned savings and a more mature mindset. (as you can see my maturity by my avatar and screen name)
The more I read and educate myself though the more I think maybe I had it right being a dumbs*%$. Who knows, I have been reading a lot lately on these boards and I'm totally floored by how helpful everyone is!

I have owned my own business now for 10 years and it's kind of on autopilot so the boredom and mortgage has inspired me to take another crack at this.

My mother always told me that if I want to be a successful day trader, I need to wake up at 5am and start drinking so by the time the market opens I'm drunk. Maybe I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

Ruki.....a great thread among many others on full-time trading. I do like the post about focusing on one instrument. His system up front is identified as well.

If you get some good info out of this thread, post it to the main forum for discussion. I'm sure there are more out there considering full-time trading.

Best of luck, Grunt

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forums as well as new to trading stocks. I've never done any trading before but my father has made a bit of money with it over the past few years. He's finally convinced me to get in and start doing my research.

Hopefully I can start making some money in the near future :p

Hey everyone. I played in the gold market for quite a few years before taking a long break (needless to day I jumped out of that market WAY too early). I've been working a job that gives me plenty of time to research/watch/play with stocks during the day. Currently messing around with small cap and penny stocks for kicks while I get back into the groove of swing/momentum trading.

Happy trading and see ya' in chat.

Cheers,
John

My Story-
Started investing in 1998 and made money long term with mutual funds and drips. Made enough discretionary money to buy furniture and appliances for my new house. I have a home and work a regular 9 to 5. Decided to swing-day trade a year and a half ago starting with $5,000.00 that I could lose and I dwindled it down to $1,800.00 before pulling the plug and stopped for about eight months. Im back with a new perspective and a goal to be financially independent.

Trading and making money is not my dream job or anything close- I would like to have the freedom to travel at anytime. For me it is a vehicle to give me independence.

I understand trading stocks and I am currently learning about options and other derivitives. I have alot of ebooks if anyone is interested-just pm me.

I have done many things in my life to with great success except for trading! And this is frustrating for me.

I am glad to be a part of the forum and I hope I can learn to be successful in trading and provide some help to others.

Thanks!

Well, I'm 19, currently in my second year of college & planning on majoring in Finance. Anything remotely related to the stock market interests me, albeit I'm just learning about it all. Trying to tackle options & futures right now, just when I thought I was getting familiar with stocks.

As far as trading goes, my only experience thus far has been with practice money. I started casually in July, brought my theoretical $100k to $119k by August and now back down to $94k. It feels like I'm just gambling right now, so I'm eager to learn more before I play with my own cash. In regards to a career, I'm an aspiring hedge fund or portfolio manager for either private or public equity. Haven't really narrowed it down yet.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to being active in this community and hopefully learning a thing or two along the way.

Welcome to the forum.

Just curious, why did you choose a link as your signature?

Subtlety from you? Or are you softening in your old age?

Anyway I finally had to click that link after reading so many other posts here about that scam and had a good laugh when I read the folllowing from the introductory page:

You' see Goldman Sachs and most other large investment funds are at a major disadvantage. They often manage portfolios of up to $10,000,000,000 (ten billion dollars) - and because of this when they invest in stocks their scope is limited to just a few of the worlds largest firms (Coca-Cola, Google).

Poor GS, those guys are so disadvantaged:lol:

I've never introduced myself but I will now. My name is Jeff and trading/investing is my new big hobby. Tennis used to be my favorite hobby but now I've been extremely interest in the stock market. I open up an E*trade account over the summer (had to almost beg my parents to let me and they only let me start out with a little over 1K). I'm currently a college student and study the market whenever I have free time. I have all of my money in SIRI right now (true speculation) hoping that their merger with XM will be approved by the government. After I find out about the SIRI-XM merger, i will probably sell and get some cash and I plan to study microcaps. I feel that penny stocks are the best way to make a lot of money so I'm going to study penny stocks near 52-week lows and watch for some momentum. IMO, I feel that penny stocks with momentum are nice to trade and can be very profitable. My goal is to turn $500 into a lot of money by trading penny stocks (the ones that are actually cheap and under .01, so i can actually buy a feasible # of shares).

... (the ones that are actually cheap and under .01, so i can actually buy a feasible # of shares).

Now that's where you're wrong, take your head out of the cloud, # of shares have nothing to do with how well you or the stock might do, 5 shares of a $100+ stock or 50 shares of a $10 stock...doesn't matter. But good luck on your SIRI shares.

thanks albert, I really think siri and xm will merge (or atleast hope they do). The reason i like penny stocks is the volatility. I've got 10 penny stocks on a watch list and one of the stocks is up 230% over a few days. Now I know that penny stocks are extremely risky and almost gambling but I'm planning on never risking my whole account on 1 stock. My reason on playing pennys stocks is the fact that I need to make a good amount of money if I want to go to an expensive college.

Nike, why not go to oanda.com and open a forex account. I trade it after hours. You can probably get 200:1 margin. Go long EUR/USD. The odds are better than pennies. I only say this because you seem like you may do the appropriate research.

E trade is not the broker to use in trading pennies.

11-28-2007, 04:07 PM
yea i know that e*trade can be a hassle when trading otc stocks. I have to call the orders in and I have to talk to an E*trade rep. The only good thing is they don't charge me extra to call them in because I can't submit the orders online. What does a forex account cost and what kind of trades can you make (otc- can you buy them) and what are the trading commissions like. thanks for the advice

I, too, came to this forum as an equities investor wanting to learn more about trading.

I found that there are some experienced and capable traders posting to this forum who are generous in sharing their knowledge. I think you'll like this place.

I encourage you to visit the chat room during the trading day. There you will see skilled [and not so skilled] traders in action. You will also be subjected to some really bad puns. What else could you ask for?

Approach the Grand Poobah's Aiki and Chinaman carefully and they will admit you on a trial basis; 90 day probation isn't that right Net?

At any rate, no experience necessary...

I am new here. Been trading for about a year now and learning everyday. I really appreciate you guys doing a fine job running this site that helps all of us. Many thanks.

Live in Georgia but currently overseas at an APO address. When i get off work here its 7:00 pm local when the market opens on EST. Plus the internet services provided here aren't state of the art either i am just glad that i can watch the market with a 6 KB connection.

I use Scottrade Elite platform for trading and i am happy with it. Just got upgraded for options trading & thinking about Margin account for short sales.

Once again thanks for a great site. Keep up the good work. :)

Hello all. My name is Anne. I've been trading for a year - daytraded the first 1/3 of the year and that was fun and certainly instructive, but because I dislike having to watch every second of the day I've parked everything into a few solid companies and am letting my "fortune" :y: wax and wane as it feels like, so I can leave the house from time to time.

What kind of trader am I - I guess right now by my present investments you could call me a long-term practical investor. But I'm always reading and learning.

I live in the Midwest currently, but as soon as I can afford to buy and build on ten or so spectacular acres in the southern Valley of Virginia, I'm moving there.

I've posted my daily round of market-related sites, and a couple of old rock videos to date myself.

Look forward to meeting everyone -- Cheers!

So you're a girl? Welcome! I'm Jelly, a guy. So what's up with your fine self?

It certainly can be tedious to be glued to the puter. I've made a transition to a longer term focus myself.

I know an on-line couple who built a log cabin in a valley on acreage in Va. Pictures show an incredible setting complete with steams. Terribly idyllic.

Hi Anne,

I see that Jelly has introduced himself.

Jelly is, of course, an old reprobate and married to boot.

That said, he isn't really a bad sort — just has these fantasies, you see.

I'll have to check out the rock videos, but my guess is that you are a comtemporary of my [15-years younger] brother Casey. Case is a gigging musician with a 'day-job' at a major newspaper in the Southern California area.
Oh, Case is married too. But that's just how things go.

Anyway, welcome to the OTF. Most of the folks here aren't as CooCoo as Jelly and I are.

Good day everyone. I'm extremely happy to have found this forum. I've already learned a great deal just from browsing the forum.

I graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a minor in managerial economics. My interest in the markets has brought me to believe that I should've pursued a higher degree in finance. Anyway, I'm happy to be a member of this forum.

Thanks in advance. :top:

Hi All,

I’ve been on the site for a few months but I don’t post often. I’m a SAHM of two little ones so the only time I really get to sit at the computer is nap time. I’ve learned a lot from what I’ve read so far and I’m hoping to learn more.

Thanks to all those who contribute and make this site a place worth coming back to.

Hi rozz

I know I'm not on your short list but having been on a few other forums, this is the only place that welcomes and helps those new to investing and trading (if, in fact, you are).

It's also the only place that tolerates such a wide array of personalities and viewpoints.

Hello all, I go by Supreona which is a mix of two names that me and one of my friends concocted.

I am 26(as of Mar 11, LOL). I reside in the great state of Tennessee (GO VOLS!!!) The first time I was introduced to trading was by a broker from Salomon Smith Barney, who at my behest came to my house when I was 16. I had picked up a newspaper and observed these companies with these prices beside them and I wanted to know more. Every since then I've been enthralled by the markets, how people make and lose fortunes on a daily basis and making an attempt to position myself to be victorious. Still much work to be done.

I was enlisted in the United States Air Force for 4 years, I've been to Japan, China, England, Singapore, Canada, Diego Garcia(an island south of India) and nearly every state. I was a Munitions Systems Technician/Training Manager/Combat Ammunition Systems Manager. I have one beautiful son and a great girlfriend who will hopefully end up being my wife one day. I'm my mothers only child, but I'm no mamas boy...technically I am, but you know what I mean,

I have learned a ton since I've been here. From everyone, aiki, net, micro, china, mlegha and kev just to name a few. I study you guys moves, so hopefully one day I can emulate you all. Please keep teaching those who want to learn.

I'm Surf. I have traded full time (retail) for 13 years. The first 3 were rough, but I finished the 3rd profitable. I have been profitable since. I hit 6 figures annually from year 6 on and now scaling even larger accounts. January and February 2008 have produced 6 figures with the volatility.

It can be done. Do not give up, but be prepared to work your ass off finding the system that you can trade. If you are looking for stock advice or which stock to trade, you are likely headed in the wrong direction if you are trading.

I'll post when I think there is a suitable contribution or an opportunity to share. I will not give my "secrets" because there is no secret! I will not give my entire system because a system has to be designed by the individual for it to work and work with confidence.

Guess I should post here. I've been trading a little while, and am still quite the newb, but have a background in financial services (not trading) and am not finding it as difficult as I expected. I'm still mostly an investor with long-term positions, but am building up a nest egg to set do some shorter term trading.

I've been lurking the forums for a few weeks, taking notes, and have found some invaluable information. This place is a great resource and seems like a good place to hang out.

I just started trading individual stocks this year, I have other investments. Some angel investing in companies, 401k, IRA etc... Have been watching the market for several years but "took the plunge" as a new years resolution and am up 25% so far. I have a couple of bad trades in there that are weighing me down a bit AAPL being one of the biggest :(

As far as my personal life goes I'm a computer programmer living in Murfreesboro and have worked in everything from health care to .coms and have recently found myself working in the print industry. I have a wonderful girlfriend of a year and a half who is currently finishing her degree in marketing.

From this day forward, I am here to learn and contribute what I can. I will probably be doing more "asking" than "answering" questions, but as my knowledge continues to grow, you will see me doing more "contributing" to the OTF.

Things for me, in the past on the OTF, have sometimes been nothing short of a nightmare, but I would like to put all of that behind me and move forward. I welcome the opportunity to learn to grow in my knowledge of trading practices (financially) as well as my knowledge of growing as a better person (personally.)

I would like to thank you of my fellow posters, in advance, for giving me this opportunity.

Hi! I'm Jim. I'm a retired computer programmer, christian, outdoorsman, etc. I've been interested in trading for a long time, starting with paper trades utilizing the newspaper, (pre-internet). Recently I rolled my Roth and traditional IRA's into Scottrade and started buying "historical", (did I say "histerical" ?), bargains and selling them for profits. I really need market scanning software to reduce the volume of data I research, but the stuff I see advertised doesn't seem to address my simple needs. I've really been enjoying this forum.

Hi Jim,

I'm a retired IS guy myself. Actually, I'm an ROI analyst turned Corporate IS Planner. I was the one who ran the numbers when we wanted to add to memory or disk storage, or replace the mainframe. [Of course, the computers got smaller later on.]

I certainly relate to the goal of reducing/automating the data scanning work. Several of us here on the OTF work to make trading and investing decisions based on Fundy and/or Tech analysis. There is a lot of sharing of information and ideas.

Welcome aboard.

Background: from Milan, italy, live in Atlanta. love ducati motorcycles, cars, travelling, skiing tennis, reading economist and hot chicks. Invest in real estate quite a bit, have doubled my money and lost it all a few times.

Anyway, I've got about $20k that I'll let myself play with in the market, a gorillatrades subscription, and this forum... lets see where it goes!

thanks aiki... so this is what I have learned since yesterday.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED IN 1 DAY ON THIS SITE:
1. gorillatrades and other stock picking services are considered junk and I should be glad I was paying month to month rather than full year.

2. there are no shortcuts, few predictable patterns, to rely on to make a quick buck

3. the warren buffett style seems to be more highly regarded than the purely technical short trading I have been experimenting with

4. I need to subscribe somehow to all the posts people like aiki make, and follow them as "mentors" to learn faster.

5. READ READ READ is akin to practice practice practice...

my questions are:
1. does a good month reading everything I can on this forum help?
2. what other major "pillars" of truth should I internalize so as not to make too many newbie errors?
3. what do people think of RIO? (been my darling stock for a year and not sure what is happening now).

THANKS!

i dont think scanning everything will help much and if you plan on being aggressive, id probably stay away from warren buffets style of investing

what i would do to start out is learn the basics on candlesticks, simple moving averages, and volume and branch off from there

I agree, take a small step, and completely digest the info and then take the next step. You can very easily overload on information in the beginning.

Hey guys, I guess I am little late to this but I just saw the thread. I am very new to trading, and have been doing this for the past 8 weeks.

I am an Economist by education, but I was working in the sub-prime mortgage industry for Accredited Home Lenders. While it was going, it was the best job possible but at the end, not so much. Now I am going to school to be an Accountant, but the market is what I love to follow and study.

I hope to lean on you the veterans for help and some of you have already reached out to me to help me understand the market. Thanks netwrangler. Studying the market so far, I know I would like to trade options in the future but I don't want to pile myself with that now. For now I am completely enamored with the market and how it works and what goes in it. I am interested in day trading and swing trading, very short term, maybe to hold a stock for a week at most. One thing I have learned is that stop limits is the key to everything you do in the market. I learned that lesson the hard way.

The Technical analysis has been this box that once you open it just keeps going and going, you can never run out of people's opinions on how to read a chart or what to read in a chart. I love this stuff and I hope to contribute and help out on the threads as much as I can but also know my role and ask questions.

Lately I have been following DRYS, SOLF and GME. I thank you all and look forward to sharing my ideas with you guys.

Hi all...

I'm a newbie here, and new to investing as well. Been seriously studying short-term trading since March of this year. Made a few bad calls that became long-term investments (WLK and GE - not much money in either, so letting them ride), took my lessons and did well on my next purchases (FSYS - 55% in 3 weeks; VSCI - 15% in 5 days). Still riding ZOLL just because (it has been up as much at 9%, currently ~ 8%... want to recoup my commission before getting out... I had intended to get in and out while I still had my free introductory trades, but missed the cut).

I find myself a bit stunned that I've become involved in trading at all. My family has been in the market since early last century - XOM stocks purchased in 1918 have been passed down and are still serving my parents well. However, I've never understood the market and have always been a bit afraid of it. I grew up hearing about so many fortunes "lost," never understanding that what was "lost" were unrealized gains, not actual investments. Several years ago my (now) ex-husband started an investment club, and every time he talked about stocks it was about gains lost and opportunities unrealized. It got to where every time the subject came up I found myself with my fingers in my ears singing "lalalalalala" and living in blissful ignorance, even though their club was in the black. I continued to shy away from investing, out of fear, but the reality of entering my 4th decade as a single mom (7 year old boy) with not nearly enough for retirement forced me to think about how I was going to change that. In March I started watching CNBC, or more precisely, the stock ticker that scrolls across the bottom of the screen, and started realizing that there were gains to be made on the market if you can only figure out which stock was going to take off on any given day. I've been studying and reading ever since, and while I can't sit down and explain anything to anyone yet, I'm comfortable with my instincts and ready to start putting some of my divorce settlement to work for me.

About me: I work in the Air Medical Transport industry here in Alaska. My job puts me in the ER, where I get to witness the ravages poverty can wage. It scares me enough to remind me to be mindful of how I live and be concientious with my money. When I'm not working (which seems like I'm doing way too much lately 8O) I like to ski, hike and climb (rock and ice). I'm the mom of a 'challenging' (in a good way) but wonderful son who is "on the spectrum." I'm investing as much for his future as I am for mine - his personal challenges may make a fully independent life impossible for him, and I have to plan for this.

So, that's my "How do you do"... I'm here to familiarize myself with different ways to approach trading. If there is one lesson I have learned so far, it is that you can't just rely on others to suggest good buys - you have to do your own research and understand what you're getting into; you have to see the big picture and understand how forces beyond the control of individual businesses can affect sectors and industries as a whole. It is fascinating and I'm really looking forward to getting more deeply involved.

Greetings all, I recently posted a couple of items so I may have put the cart before the horse so my apologies for that. I am a second time investor of who lost all interest after losing pretty much my entire folder back in 2000. But I have to say it was not really much of a folder back then, although it was a half of what I had and it did hurt to lose it. Now I am back because I know that a savvy investment will outperform any savings account or CD hands down.
I hope to learn the technicals from this site and help others if I can. This seems like a great site with polite and knowledgable posters. I really look foward to the coming months and opportunitiesand hope I can keep things on a postive note. Thanks for letting me come on board, David.

I've never done a proper introduction in this thread so here goes..

Name: Albert
Age: 22
Born: So. Cali
Job: Full-time student
Broker: Scottrade

I first started trading at 18, but was interested way before then. My uncle was an avid trader and was successful in the stock market and real estate and gave me a gracious gift of 10k for my 18th birthday for me to trade with. He was already mentoring me on how to trade and whatnot so I was not completely new to the scene. Over these past few years, I can say I've done more than fine and was able to build up the funds necessary to day-trade and more. I am more of a swing trader than anything, doing few daytrades or long term holds. I'm a student at CSUF and majoring in Finance and looking to get my MBA afterwards, finished an internship last year at a small finance company. Pretty much it :)

Age: 29
Location: FL

In the last year have gotten into investing, started when my grandfather (flagship member with Vanguard) explained to my brothers and I what he looks for in a mutual fund. As my girlfriend would say, I became obsessed with investing. I researched and am now in 2 MF's thru a ROTH IRA with Vanguard (maxed out 2007 contribution and almost have 2008 maxed) and got subscriptions to Smart Money, Money, Kiplinger's and DVR Fast Money everyday. Now I'm trying to self educate myself on picking actual stocks thru reading several books and websites. I think in a couple of months will feel comfortable enough to take the first leap and buy individual stocks.

Hello. My name is Gordo and I am new to the investment game (not including retirement mutual funds). I am a remodeling contractor in Virginia Beach and happily married with children. Look forward to meeting some of you.:itsme:

HEY Gordo, welcome.

Virginia Beach hah? Has property come down to a reasonable price yet there? I had a job offering there and turned it down due to housing. Heck, I have almost an acre here with a seven bedroom home for $180k, in VB two bedrooms, NO side yard, 5 foot back yard, 10 feet of front yard, +$250k ! Love the area though.

Happy trading.

My name is Matthew I'm 26 and I live in Fort Worth, TX. I got interested in investing and the market about four months ago. I’m currently trying to read as many books and news papers as I can get my hands on. I find the market and investing very interesting but right now it is overwhelming since I’m just starting out. I think I will be positing a lot of questions in the “Trading and Investing Education” section of the forum.

Guess I should post in here. I am from St Louis MO. Trying to get into the market more, stumbled upon this forum looking to educate myself. So far the forum is really informational, and there aren't many trolls, which is a nice thing. Seems like a lot of well spoken adults making educated posts, which is a hard thing to find these days on the internet or at work. Its hard to find forums that dont devolve into a youtube comment thread. Looking forward to posting here.

HI all. I'm a general contractor/developer in the U.P. of Michigan. Slow year but still busy and hangin on. Spend quite a bit of time in the office designing homes, bookwork, estimates and all that stuff so I also have time to watch the market. For the last 20 years, all I've done as far as investing in the market is give the local guy X amount of dollars each year for my retirement account, mostly in mutual funds.

As of this fall, I decided to take a more active role in my investments, as online trading and research has made it easier. I see and hear of many others newbies like me taking advantage of the market now as well. I'm sure this board and others have been flooded with new blood lately. I'm learning along the way. Made some good moves, learned some lessons. So much to learn that I feel overwhelmed at times. With the help of this boards wealth of information and seasoned vets, I hope to come up with a winning strategy to start growing my portfolio.

Best,
Scott

My name is Alan and I have been trading professionally with automated systems for just over one year. I believe that the best part of learning about trading/investing is learning about yourself and how you handle the wins, losses and the rapid flux of money into and out of your account.

Most everything that I have learned from trading and investing has come from my losses, not my gains, so there is a lot to be said for making mistakes in my opinion.

I am interested in learning from other systems traders who have been successful trading for cash flow rather than capital appreciation. If there is anyone out there who can help, please drop me a line...

Respectfully,

So in relation to the "good place to hang out" thread, I thought it would be good to get to know each other, get some background info (schooling, job, wife/husband/gf/bf, kids, sports team, etc.), something about how we got into trading maybe, and what we're looking to get out of it.

I suppose I'll start since this was my idea!

After finishing my phd in molecular biophysics/biochemistry in England I came to UCSD to do a post-doc and met my now fiance. (We now live in the bay area and I work for a large government lab.) She had the idea of investing some of our savings, about a year ago, and after a slow start I've learnt a lot and, more importantly, I really love it! (Sometimes I hate it!) It's the first hobby I've ever had that's actually making rather than using money!

I'd say my science background gives me a good insight into the biotech/pharma sector and hence why my portfolio is very skewed towards them.

My fiance is a bit like my Mrs. Cramer - she keeps the disapline for the rules we're trying to set! Our savings/investments are really for the house we'd like to buy once the housing market crashes next year - or at some point in the next few years! I don't want to buy a condo/townhome that's gone up 150% in the last 3 years!!

I went to Oxford University and my religeon is Liverpool Football Club! YNWA! (That's "soccer" people!)
Hello,

I just joined this online-forum, and your post caught my eye. Could you please confirm that you recvd my email. Like you, I also have a science background. As I have looked into the stocks - fundamental analysis, technical analysis, etc.. I have come to the conclusion that there is more to technical analysis than people have given credit. I am attempting to comibine the two using hopefully some poewerful tools. I would really appreciate if you can shed some light on this... What have you found useful? what is not worth spending time after? Many many thanks in advance.

Hey, all. I'm new to trading, and set aside a certain amount of income (aside from retirement saving) to experiment with in the stock market that isn't the end of the world if I lose. It's fun so far.. I've made about a $50 profit off of my initial $2,000 investment in only two days, which is more than I was honestly expecting.

Running into a bunch of fun rules like the "free ride" rule and the "pattern day trading" rule. A headache so far, but I'm learning..

Hey everyone, I just joined today, and have been lurking around for a couple of hours now.

Anyway, I'm a 41 year old male Tool Engineer working for a tier 1 supplier to just about all of the automobile companies. (No bailout for us). I live in the Philly area and have been trading for about 5 years now. I use the Philsgang method of trading where I just look at charts and try to follow the money as it goes into and out of stocks. I typically only trade the same 5 to 10 stocks over and over and over and over,etc...

I am looking forward to exposure to different styles of trading, and hopefully this site can help me become an even better trader in the future.

Dont really have a clue what I want to do in my future but I have been really interested in the investing world the past year or so. Im reading and learning as fast as I can and hope the best comes from it. Started investing about 4 months ago threw Etrade and I have made and 60% profit. I have really taken an interest in penny stocks. I know most of you are probably saying that is a bad place to start for someone so new to investing. But:thefinger:(I like taking risks)
