I'll go with SOIGF, although I would never invest in this one with real money; it's way too mercurial for a poor boy like me.

I'll take ORCL.
Oracle is due to report its second-quarter earnings after the close of trading Monday. Heavy trading in ORCL calls on Friday,,,, look for a nice 10% pop after recent pullback from new highs.

I'll take ORCL short
Mark Murphy, an analyst at First Albany, friday downgraded Oracle (ORCL) to Neutral from Buy, citing his expectation that the company will show slowing growth within 2-3 quarters. He notes that “five years’ worth of returns have been packed into one” with a 50% surge in ORCL shares this year. I see a 10% pullback on a soft earnings report.

I'll take ORCL short
I see a 10% pullback on a soft earnings report.

ORCL shares lost 1.4% to trade at $17.66 in after hours trading. The company said fiscal second-quarter earnings, excluding certain one-time items, were 22 cents a share, matching Wall Street's expectations. Net earnings rose 21% to $967 million, or 18 cents a share, on a 26% sales rise to $4.16 billion, slightly topping the average estimate of analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call.

My call was certainly off today, but earnings and performance look good at ORCL.

It's a good company. Unfortunately (for this contest) the previous quarters they outperformed to such a degree that I didn't believe they could do anything to please the market, and the year to year is also an impossible number to match, hence the pick to short them.

We giving ole Frank 2 tries this week?

That's gotta suck when you get 2 entries and you're still losing, or do 2 negatives make a positive in this case? (Nothing personal Frank, it just struck me as funny:mrgreen:)

I gotta hand it to ya Aiki, I played the wrong side of the trade this week on ORCL. I was out today at $17.15, but looking to pick up shares again if it hit's $16.50 for a long term hold.

Thanks, it was pure luck. Wish I'd actually put some money on this one, but I probably would've had a heart attack the first two days when it dropped over 20% and not been around to enjoy the rapid rally.

I have an idea for next week as, but I will wait to give first dibs to the guy who first mentioned it.

Merry Christmas and God bless everyone.

Thierry,

Call me a glutton for punishment, but I want to go MAMA (short) again. Maybe it lost steam after crushing me 30+% this week.
