View Full Version : AAPL
I picked this up when it was in the teens (pre-split), and it's had an awesome run. I keep debating whether to sell it. Last week didn't Cramer say it could go to 80? This week he said 50?
Anyone else have thoughts on AAPL?
AAPL is of course, Apple Computer for you non-home gamers :)

Hi,
I am an Apple fan from way back, still am. I got out right before the split. I do not see anything big coming out from them. Still have not got back in to it.
Gizmodo.Com kind of said that HP and Apple are no more. That Apple is courting IBM now. No more IPods to be sold from HP. As for the music video on an Iphoto, the screen is really to small to enjoy something that will cost $2.00. You will always have some people that have to have them. Battery life could be an issue also. If the market rallies it could go to around 50. This just my opinion, I see no killer must have items here. Blu Ray and HD CD seem to be the next thing. They may merge into one to avoid the Beta vs VHS thing of the past. This may take longer then they want.
Still have my Apple IIs and they are still working.
iPod wasn't exactly novel when it came out, but Apple made it cool. The iTunes model was a no-brainer, but Apple was the first to actually implement it while other sites were trying to sell you music subscriptions.
That's their strength now, they don't have to release something innovative, they just have to generate buzz and make everybody think it's innovative.
I'm not an Apple product fan. I don't own any of their products. I bought AAPL after the tech crash because unlike many techs, they were profitable and had a pile of cash. This was shortly before ipod, and I was thinking the same, 'what kind of killer items could they produce?' The iPod didn't strike me as killer, but then I saw the Apple marketing magic take effect. The stock has gone up 350% since I bought it.
Not saying it still has that much upside, since I honestly don't know.

Just imagine this - the Apple operating system is being prepared as we speak to work on Intel chips - the chip inside 95% of personal computers. Every windows machine may within the next year or two suddenly have the option to run an operating system that many believe is better in almost every respect than the Microsoft one. The next version of Windows, being released next year (they hope) is already availble in functionality in the Mac OS 10.
If Apple starts replacing Windows, imagine where Apple's revenues could go.

Hi,
It would be great if that happened. First, Windows is to well entrenced, for anybody to come along and overtake it. People do not like change. At least most do not. Alot of people I know still use 98 or 2000.I still have a hard time getting use 0S X. Like the older OSs it was similar to the Apple II that I still use.
Even though the processor has changed you still may need a real Apple Mother board to run the new OS X.
Even if the new OS will be able only to run on Window Machines it would have to be near the very latess ones made. There is always a cut off point of what will not work and of what is supported.

The big question is whether the Apple hardware that runs Intel chips will be fully compatable with PCs. Last time they tried for open hardware, they killed it soon afterwards. I haven't heard yet if they intend to go PC compatable or Intel CPU with a proprietary hardware design, have they announced it?

What I find in inteesting isn't that they haven't announced it, but that they haven't denied it.

Steve Jobs likes to keep everything under wraps. He wants to be the one in the news with the announcements. His style is right after the announcement it is avaiable for sale. He has sued in the past over leaks and rumors that came true.
First, I think the current APPL run is about over. It still might see 50, but I think there are too many other good plays out there than to be in APPL at this point. JMHO.
Second, Mac OS X will not take over the computer industry. Steve Jobs has already been quoted saying that Mac OS X will only run on Mac computers with Intel processors, no others. He did however hint that they will not prevent the Windows OS from operating on their new computers. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out. Good luck on your trades!

I just read that they were slow in getting the patent on the IPod and that Microsoft beat them in court. Apple is appealing the case. But they may have to pay $10.00 for every IPod sold to Microsoft.
My Favorite 2 posters would be Helk and Deepin Wonder. Keep up the good work.

Here is a link to that story about the patent on the iPod and Microsoft.

Tussle over iPod patent between Apple and Microsoft may resolve itself
Apple Computer lost out to Microsoft in its attempt to patent technology relating to its top-selling iPod music players, but many believe Apple's miscue will ultimately result in embarassment rather than monetary loss.
Microsoft developer John Platt filed a patent application five months before Apple, according to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office documents. Apple's application, filed by CEO Steve Jobs and other officials in October 2002, was turned down by patent officials in July.
But due to the intricacies of patent law and to the complex relationship between Apple and Microsoft, Apple will probably not be forced to pay significant fees to Microsoft for sales of the product it developed and popularized.
Macworld cites longtime industry analyst, Roger Kay, as saying that even if Microsoft were to win a patent challenge from Apple, the chances of it having any significant effect on Apple's future business are slim.
I think that in practical terms, no judge will allow Microsoft to stop Apple's iPod business from going forward, Kay, president of Endpoint Technologies Associates, told Macworld. I think that if Microsoft makes a narrow claim stick, the settlement will be a cross-licensing deal with little or no money changing hands.

Bump.
I've been a watcher of the show for a few months now, and a daily reader of these forums. I figured that I would just bump this post, as it applies to Apple.
I bought AAPL back 4-5 months ago, and I'm up about 20%. It has hit a new high 2 days now. Cramer said that it would hit $50. I also know that tech is still pretty hot. I was wondering what everyone thought?
Thanks.
Congrats on your AAPL trade! I still think it's very close to the top at these levels. 50 is possible, but be careful because as Jim says 'pigs get slaughtered'. Keep in mind, AAPL started its run over a year ago so another 6 months may be hard to maintain. INTC and MSFT really haven't started any sustained rallies yet.

Well with Apple coming out with the new Ipod Nano sort of cross between an Ipod and the Shuffle. It might go over $55 share if they can get the price down a bit on it and if takes off. With a Flash drive, and LCD screen like the Ipod I think this will be a big hit. I think MOT new phone pushed them to release it Nano a little earlier than they would have liked to.

I think AAPL is doing a great job putting out great products. I've seen so many people at the gym using IPODs and I have friends that are absolutely addicted to their IPODs.
