What is the best way to set your portfolio going into today? I reduced my positions in defense 10% and upped alt energy 10% in anticipation of the Dems taking the house. If they take both I may do a little more trimming on the defense side and I'd sell Altria and Loews and the big Pharma. If the Reps hold both I'll do the opposite, maybe even add an overweight to the defense since the reps will see a mandate for their policies in the war on terror.

I've been in VIAC, and in general most stem cell stocks have been on a tear, STEM, GERM, ASTM.

The senate was only 1 vote from overriding Bush's veto, a few months ago. Also, there is a stem cell vote on the ballot in Missouri that looks to pass according to polls, with Missouri Catholics coming out in support of the bill.

I think this could be a major turning point for stem cell research, but be careful since these stocks have had a nice run.

do you think JNJ would have an adverse effect to a democratic sweep.

Eh??? You'll have to explain your logic there.

everyone is saying big pharma will get sold off, if dems sweep.
Does JNJ get shot too, or are they too generic to matter?

I'm staying in either way, just curious on your thoughts

I don't think it'll make any difference either way for JNJ - or most companies in fact!

I'd not heard that about pharma but if lots of people say something might happen it often does - just because!

In a few days time you'll look back on this election a think "wow - that was irrelevant!"

I agree for the most part, but the stem cell theory seems sound ( I think Limbaugh's disgusting attack on M.J. Fox will enable the bill to pass) and Cramer's call on a pullback for CVX looks to be happening already, and will probably offer a nice discount on CVX vs it's peers. So a few stocks may at least temporarily swing one way or the other.

JNJ is still getting slaughtered, but bounced nicely off the 50 day MA. I haven't had a chance to buy, but I would consider now a good time to accumulate.

I was wrong. Looks significant factor on JNJ! Bounced off $66 and I think it has done going down.

Article in Business week online about this whole negative democrat-pharma has been very overblown.

Great buy in opportunity on JNJ, I think.
