And look at it now we are almost down -500 for the DOW. I called this a long time ago when he was still battling it out with Hilary.

I think he's going to have a rough time, I don't see the stock market rallying because he's in office, the fundementals remain regardless of black, white, or if you are a woman who tans, Orange person in the white house. It will be a long road to undo all this mess. But as we move toward that more and more baby boomers will pull out their money to retire. The future of stocks look dire from my perspective.

I also thought that the stock market would come in after the election result. My thought is that after the Mon/Tue low of last week, the market had almost 6 sessions continuing to go up. Part of it was of course the double bottom on Dow/S&P and more people came in bottom fishing. Part of it, I speculated, was the smart money already knew Obama would win this election and the market rise has this built in. After the news, profit taking time. (But I think the market would tank early on if McCain were to win because that was "unexpected".)

Intra day 30 D chart, you will see that around 17th Oct there was a low in SPY at 87.5(left Shoulder) and the head at low of 83.69 around 25th to 29th OCT.

Asian markets looking nasty!!

It's about time!

The Heng Sang Index went down and down, and had a -10% session followed by another -10% session back to back on October 24. It reached a low of 11000. In the past week, it went up from 11000 to 15000. That's a 36% rise over just a little over a week. 36%! It baffled my mind to see that it could reach that high, while all were saying about global economic recession.

I would be very surprised if there is a gap up tomorrow....judging by how things stand at the moment. I expect a quick test of 9000 early tomorrow....

I couldn't agree more. I got into the DXD a few days ago at 69, and I expect a further drop when the jobs report comes out on Friday (or Thursday in anticipation of the jobs report, which seems likely).

On a side note, the media's campaign to feed the stock market rally has been a thing to behold. Tuesday was a beautiful selling opportunity, and the only reason I missed it is because all my money was in selling the day before. Don't believe anything the media says, including that Obama can fix this. He seems like a nice guy, but he has no clue. Hope is not a plan.

The market already started factoring in an Obama victory at least a couple of days before the election and then sold off after the actual win. In my opinion, the market did not go down becasue of Obama. I think this rally was because of Obama. The whole world is in a finacial crisis. The whole world is under a dark cloud no one has ever seen before. The whole world is not just in a financial mess, but in a complete moral decay. For the record, I am Republican and voted for Big Mac and the Pitbull. Although I am disappointed they didn't win, mostly because the blown opportunity to appoint 2 conservative supreme court justices who may have possibly stopped or reduced abortions, I am relieved that there will be no more Bush bashing and no more finger pointing at the republicans for not getting things done. Obama can now withdraw from the Middle East within a month of being sworn in if he wants. I did not vote for McCain, and I don't believe the Republicans will ever do anything about abortion. Obama's wants to raise capital gains taxes to 28%. That will cause people to sell long term winners. Plus raising taxes on corporations and small business owners will cripple the economy. Plus his massive spending programs(that will be on credit), won't help the dollar and the interest we pay on the national debt will just go higher. We are in for some terrible times. A bad recession could easily turn into a great depression, if the liberals do what they want to do. Just think, these might be considered the good old days. I hope Obama succeeds for the good of the country, but socialism doesn't work.

Raising taxes a little bit will not stop investment. Let me try and explain this to you people:

There is a some leeway in taxes just as there is leeway in changing the price of something before consumers stop buying as much. For example, if gas costs $2.00/gal there might be a leeway of another $0.50 cents before people change how much gas they buy. In other words the price of gas has to get around $2.50/gal before people begin to significantly change their buying habits. In the same way, if you raise taxes a from 15% to 20% it will not offset investment because it is still lower than the income tax rate for wealthy people.

But regardless of what he does I hear these people they interview on CNBC saying perhaps it's "bye-bye" for wall street so that is what will cause investment to slow.

I didn't hold GM. I only held it for a couple of hours. I'm day trading now and I trade the MA(200) crossovers on the 5 minute charts. I have held SKF and QID for two days and plan to sell end of day.

I would watch the transition appointments in the next couple of weeks by Obama. If he diddles around with considering undersecretaries of health and housing etc. The market will tank further. However, if he starts involving people like Tim Geithner (sp?) of the NY fed and Jamie Dimon, the market will take notice and move up.

Personally, I am salivating at the prospect of Paul Volcker as Treasury secretary. He's seen it all. Inflation, deflation, stagflation. That will give us a mini bull market.

President Bush and Paulson have made some good intimations to involve Obama people to make sure the TARP thing continues w/o missing a beat. That is very good if Obama follows through.

I think tax reason is the least important for trading. Some people hold on to a stock, wouldn't want to sell because he doesn't want to pay capital gain tax. So he marries to the stock until someday the price drops back to his entry price. (Or worse: below his entry price.) So... he doesn't need to pay capital income tax no more. Even better, he can have some capital loss write-offs!

Too true. I believe the political term is "wedge issue". There are many of them. For the right it is abortion and gay marriage. They throw these moral dilemmas out there and claim the other party is destroying the moral fabric of America. For the left it is gun control, the environment, and stem cells. I think that whomever is President will be extremely limited as to what can occur. Honestly, there is no way that we can make it as a country. The blame goes back to as far as Roosevelt, Dems and Repubs. We borrowed way way way too much and the promises to the baby boomers re: medicare and social security are too much. Peter Schiff may be very well right. Inflation may got to 20-30% easy. I think that most people in our country will give up rights to have a "government" payday. I've read a few of the last pages and responses and I feel compelled to post. I consider myself a liberal. I voted Obama and was happy he won. I think our country will be better off for it in the end. As far as religious beliefs go, I don't believe in Jesus Christ for the smae reason I don't believe in the tooth fairy. Religion was created thousands of years ago to explain the world in which we did not understand. It is outdated and the reason for much of the worlds war and disputes. I thought that Bill Maur? movie "Religulous" did a great job talking about the subject.

Frank, I have a lot of respect for you do the the great posts and your market knowledge. You've had some great picks over the years. I have been a small time contributer and very active reader the past few years here, and your stock picks are always interesting. However, you are wrong to say those who do not belive in the Christian God are lost, miserable people with not much to live for (basically what you said). I have a great family, job, girlfriend, and many friends and I couln't be happier. I think if religion makes you a better person and makes you feel good, I'm all for it. I was born Christian, however I became educated and now tend to see the truth. The point is, I couldn't be happier. Life is good, and for the most part I keep my beliefs to myself.

I think it is scary when both the left and right become extremists. Yes, I know, both sides will probably say they aren't extremists, however let me both assure you that you are. The problem with that is that it clouds all of your judgments and opinions. Therefore, there is not much truth to what any of you say. You tend to see things in black and white, however the world is grey. Nothing is clear cut, and in this instance nothing should be deemed right and wrong. Of course this statement really doesn't mean anything to extreme liberals and conservates. You are both convinced you're right.

In the end, we are all on this board for one reason. To share our love of investing and stocks with one another. That's it. Concrete, Frank, Rich, and anyone else in this discussion, if you would like to continue to debate about religion and politics, exchange emails! I respect all of your opinions, suggestions, and ideas regarding investing, because everyone who is on this site is seeking knowledge. I'm certainly not an extreme anything. You may want to read Concrete's replies to some off topic posts and then determine who the extremist and basher is. I posted two wonderful, very inspiring Christian videos and look at the constructive reponses from Concrete. Heck look at this thread and see Concrete's edited Photo Shop images bashing Christians. Like I said, he gives you guys a bad name. He is obviously upset that same sex marriage is not accepted by most Americans. I have resisted posting in this thread because my views on religious matters are clear from other threads.
I would only like to say that it has been my experience that most people are well meaning, regardless of the side they are on, and both sides have prominent examples of poor representation.
I am an atheist, and try to not be an anti religious bigot (albeit unsuccessfully due to strong or maybe overstrong opinions).
That said, I will go on the record as saying my belief based on forum posts and private communication is that Frank (The Chart Guru) is a man of admirable principles and deep and honest faith. I am confident in my assessment that he is motivated by good intent. It is poor form to disparage him on that basis, as there are many of questionable intent who deserve it.
I have corresponded here on the forum and privately with many of the posters on both sides and have found with very few exceptions them to be of good intent and honest belief. I urge all who post on the religion topics to take this into account when inclined to hurl invective.
I apologize for my inability to walk that walk in posts especially during the elections and their run ups.

Go ahead and post your edited comics, you’ll find little in newsprints that are factual events of Christians doing the things you and your buddies condone, such as breaking into Churches and crapping and peeing on the alters during services; but I could find thousands and thousands of news stories on how your buddies committed perversions against the Churches and violated the civil rights of those who are worshipping. I met God in Jamaica last month. It's true. He told me so.......twice!

I can understand that some people get disgusted by homosexuality (I could care less what anyone does sexually as long as it's consensual and legal age) but I don't understand the intolerance.

What if I was as disgusted by people who believe in god as you are in people who are homosexual? And what if I rose to a position of power in the government and waged a political war against those believers? Do you see the problem here?
