Accentia Biopharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ABPI) shares rose Wednesday8.5% after its majority-owned Biovest unit said its BiovaxID therapy for follicular lymphoma has received notification of its designation in the European Union's Drug Register for Rare Diseases, a development that offers benefits in the development and marketing of BiovaxID.

Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ:BLDP ) shares gained 8.7% after the company signed a follow-on agreement valued at roughly $22 million with General Hydrogen Corp. to supply 2,900 Mark 9 SSL fuel cells. Under the deal, Ballard expects to ship fuel cells ranging in size from 4 to 20 kilowatts, with about a quarter of the units to ship in 2007, and the rest in 2008.

Bell Microproducts (NASDAQ:BELM) shares added 7% after the company was upgraded at Robert W. Baird to outperform from neutral. The firm cited strong demand in Europe and improving datapoints for hard drive products.

Bovie Medical Corp. (AMEX:BVX) shares jumped 15% after the company said it's signed an exclusive distribution agreement for an electrosurgery oncology product with Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE:BSX - News). The deal calls for Bovie to manufacture the product with Boston Scientific providing distribution and marketing. Financial terms weren't disclosed although Bovie will receive funding from Boston Scientific as part of its manufacturing set-up.

China Medical Technologies (NASDAQ:CMED) shares surged 8.6% after the company said it has developed two HIV diagnostic products and that it expects the tests to receive regulatory clearance in China in less than 12 months through a fast-track approval process.

Shares of ECC Capital Corp. (NYSE:ECR) leapt 23% on news that Bear Stearns Cos. has agreed to acquire ECC's mortgage banking platform for an undisclosed sum.
