My wife and I are driving up to Providence yesterday to parents weekend at our daughters college and we notice there is no traffic on the southbound side of 95 (were going northbound). We see a Police officer in tactical gear blocking an exit. Then coming up the southbound side in the northbound direction is about 15 patrol cars and unmarked vehicles. Traffic stops on our side and we can see the police cars stopping in full Starsky and Hutch mode with flak vests and long Guns being set up. We were about ten cars from where they stopped traffic on our side so of course I got out to look. Cops had a black pickup stopped and surrounded with more cops than I can count pointing weapons at the truck. My wife who's looking in the rear view mirror says "Jim, look whats coming" and coming north on the southbound side is a tank. Now you don't see that very often so I grabbed my camera. It was actually a APV (Armored Personell Vehicle) moving about as fast as I think they can.
The cops were able to extricate the driver without any shots being fired. Turns out the guy was a ... you guessed it... disgruntled postal worker. here's a link to the story:

Incidents such as this remind us that there are people out there that will suppress the troubles that they're having until something breaks. Not sure about the man's personal life, but it sounds like he had a sweet set-up, job-wise: he solves problems all day in a high-paying position without pressure from the general public, gets fantastic benefits, and has the most secure retirement plan that anyone could ask for in the country.

It isn't something that I'd give up over gunplay!

That is amazing, all that firepower for 1 guy?!

And yes, why has the term Postal become synonymous with murder-suicide? They must pick people who are 'predisposed' to that, and 'quirky', or flunked out of the police academy.

A lot of government jobs are way too cushy. Every time I would call the ATF, the person I needed to speak with was away on a 'personal' day.

That postal perpetrator better not be on paid leave!

Classic comment from his neighbor, "He always such a nice man."
