Does it really take about 3 days for an account to be funded with money upon the selling of stocks? :confused2:

In this age of electronic wiring of money, why does it take so long to get money back into your account once you sell your stock?

Yes, my experiences have been 3 days or less. Sometimes the $$$ is available in 2 days, but usually 3.

MK is right. When you buy and someone else sells, the seller's broker has to transfer the stock from his book to your broker's book. You do not technically own the stock until it is in your account at your broker. There are ways around this delay that involve margin accounts or lots of settled funds in your account. Both require greater amounts of available capital. YA, it takes money to make money. Patience is required. When I started out my goal was to make $100 per week. That was $400 per month. That is one or two successful trades per week. Paid the car loan.

Thank you very much MarKay1965, and Horsefish. I appreciate your input and elaborating on the "nuts" and "bolts" of an account settling. Thanks. :top:

yea stocks take a while to settle due to the transfering of stock from one person to another unless you trade options your in for the long haul because when i started i was up 100 then its like well if i can keep 100+ everyday then we are fine until i found out there was a three day wait now i just stick to options but am waiting for volatility to kick down so spreads can get smaller1
