ETFs never really came to my attention until all of this started to go down hill. Not it's as if every time I turn on a program talking about the economy they are mentioned. So are ETFs what people are looking at as a safe bet? Bet against or for a full sector rather than one or two companies? They're definitely interesting movers over the past few weeks.

ETF is only "safer" in eliminating one bad apple in a box. But if the price of apples go down in general, it is no "safer".

Yes there are different ETFs to let you invest/speculate on a basket of stocks in a given industry (or mimic a given index).

That's what I meant in safe....safe-ER...as in "I think a majority of financials will go up but I do not want to risk it on one or two so I'm going to go with an ETF."

Yes, I think that's very smart under the circumstances, and I've been planning on doing the same thing in my IRA when the time is right.

Yeah, that's with some of the commodity ETFs only.
