It doesn't take one to see that the shorts are wreaking havoc already on the market!
Just take a look at C, MER and CB etal!

This isn't the shorts, this is panic selling.
We're down 40% in one year in the DJIA, sounds like '29

I emphatically disagree! All the financial's were taken out to the wood shed along with the insurance companies. CB would NEVER have taken this much of a loss had it not been due to the “Big Boys” taken short positions.
With all due respect. You may call this panic selling, I'm calling It fleecing the long trader.

The shorts actually acted as a prop today and if anything prevented an even bigger slide. The huge downside volume in the last hour is indicative of selling, watch for after hours block trades as the brokers buy the shares the shorts borrowed earlier today to meet regs. The financials don't have the gravitas to cause this type of downforce, just due to shorts in the sector.
And who the hell are the long traders at this point? We have a 20% decline in the indices this month, one top of a 20% down ytd. That ain't the shorts, that's a crisis in confidence, and now the retail investor is bailing as evidenced by the Mutual Funds selling.

Yup, it's just panic selling. Hedge funds and mutual funds are dumping stocks at any price. The little guy wants his cash now. Remember, there are many new investors in the market that have never experienced major losses. This is all new to them and it's very scary and painful.

Those, plus the old ones who still remember the dotcom crash, 911 leading to a bear market. Last time they might be persuaded to stay around. They left the money in the fund for another few years, plus new contribution. But this time around, they think "I am not gonna be that stupid again".
