Does anybody here understand the silver market? It looks like a good buy to me based on the condition of the economy and its historic price graph.

I'm no expert but Silver looks cheap to me as well, be cautious though it's volatile, and is used as both an industrial and a precious metal. It's getting more difficult to buy the physical asset which should eventually translate to increased prices...

You might also want to take a look at Platinum

That's true and even gold looks pretty good. I want out of the US dollar but with the slowdown/recession/depression starting to look global, I'm not sure what to do.

I am not going to profess being an expert, but I usual;y trade silver via SLW. The stock price historically rides the tide as they make thier money selling at spot above a certain fixed price they pay for it, anyhow SLW has gotten beat up bad as of late.

But silver as a PM is not just used as an investment, it is used in a lot of industrial applications. So the one caveat here is, as demand for industrial goods containing silver decline, the price may not keep pace with say, gold.

But I still think long term, it may be a good play.
