I'd buy 5 stocks(in different sectors) splitting the money evenly among them. If you don't totally trust your stock picking ability, you might want to purchase 10 stocks to spread out the risk. Try to find undervalued high quality stocks. Be patient. You don't have to buy your stocks all at once. Try to buy on days when the market is way down to pick up some bargains. Let your winners run. Set a % loss goal when to sell your losers and stick with it. Good luck.

I got a novel idea. Might work.

Dump it all in PAIM. Right now the Ask is .004 so see if you could get in there. Buy at 9:30 and sell at 9:37. You should have your extra 5k after the unsettled funds BS passes.

Depending on how risk averse you are, could have easily pulled 5k shorting 50% of whats out there out there or just buying into the AMZN panic selloff this morning. Even in this market buy opps abound if your looking in the right places at the right time (generally, earnings releases and false news) using serious cash.

Another stock I owned that I liked was Select Comfort(SCSS). I bought some shares last year at 19.50. I sold all my shares early this year at just below $38.00. I didn't want to get too greedy. It's always hard to sell winners. Anyway, the stock went down to $33 after I sold it and I didn't buy it. The stock then went back up to $42. I still didn't buy it. The stock started going down again in May/June/ July like most other stocks. The company during that period announced a 3 for 2 split. The stock released their earnings yesterday. They had a good QTR and raised guidance for the year. A short squeeze might happen over the next few weeks. The short interest according to yahoo is over 23%. I'm tempted to buy some of their shares again. The company is doing well and growing. They also have no debt. Their beds are great too. I've never slept better on any mattress. Being adjustable gives them their own niche.
