View Full Version : July 2006 Trading Simulator contest - First Prize $100.00

Thierry Martin

I have set up another trading simulator for July - 1st prize is $100, 2nd and 3rd prizes are trading books.

If you already played in previous competitions, you already have an account and your can just continue trading, your portfolio has been set to $100,000.

If you are new to the simulator, you can join at anytime up to July 23. You must use the same username as you use here. This thread will be used to discuss the game and post updates on the standings.

You start with $100,000 and you can trade stocks long or short. We are not trading options anymore, as they made the results swing wildly both ways. Whoever has the highest amount at the close of trading on July 31, 2006 wins.

The trading simulator/contest is open only to registered members of this forum.

Send me a private message (http://www.cramersmadmoney.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1) and I will send you the link for your free sign up.

Thierry, When will the July simulator update for the upcoming contest? Checking there on Investopedia this morning still shows June's totals and has not yet reset back to 100k.

The heading at the top of the page states:
You are logged in as 'MoMoney4Me1' in the competition: 'CramersMadMoney July Simulation'

Thank you.

Tried to make a trade on KUB yesterday with a limit at 46.35.
It hit my limit but didn't make the trade and says security not trading.
How do I know it's not trading? Looks like it is as far as I can tell.

Came into the day with a bunch of shorts in the gold miners and those have paid off, though not as much as I would have liked with gold itself down $10/oz

In our simulator each game can be created with different characteristics. This game in particular does not allow short selling. If you wish to trade short, join another game that has this feature under the "groups" tab.

07-13-2006, 04:01 PM
hmmm.. that is wacky...

Transaction: Sell Short
Order Type: Market
Symbol : BLAH
# of Shares: Blah
Term: GTC...

then get the can't sell short error.... but it does tell me how many I can sell short...

no up/flat tick?

It does say right above it... You are allowed to buy # of shares of * at $*... then it says error: no short sales right below it in bold red...

I haven't signed up for this simulator, thus I have no clue what options are available for trading. But, what are BigDawg and BMan doing to get those kinds of returns? Are you trading options or what?

btw, is this simulator in realtime or is it delayed until the end of the day like CNBC's jacked up contest?

Next month I'm going to do a commentary.. I will sit out the contest and I'll show you guys some of the strategies..

Basically, you have to have to have a scan system that allows you to find stocks that making HUGE moves intraday... for instance, today, I was watching SCT which came out with some very bad news and gapped down to open at 8.59 .. (It had closed at 16 the night before!!!!)

I put a short sale at the open on, for something like 20,000 shares.. that order "went off" on the simulator at $5.20 or something like that.. .

By the time the simulator order was filled (20 min delay) the stock was already down under $4!!!!!!!

I covered that thing for like a $30,000 gain

by then the stock looked like it was bottoming, so I put in a BUY for 25,000 shares at $under $3.75. That filled, ( I can't remember what the price was) but the thing jumped back up to like $4.3 or so on the rebound....

I covered that for another $30,000 or so, and that was all I did today.. $60,000

Would I have done that in real life??

Ummm.. probably not.

but that's the one thing a simulator can never duplicate... the fear of losing real money

Two days ago, I did something similar with MIG.. another stock that "blew up".. I caught it for a short... covered for a big gain, and went long on a bounce.. for another big gain

again.. probably not something I'd do in real life.. but you asked how I was getting those kinds of gains..

That's how... Outrageously risky strategies

Here's MIG.. you can see the big blow up two days ago
