A rare, albeit moderate, surprise from Brazil’s central bank on Wednesday evening: its monetary policy committee, or Copom, raised its policy interest rate by 50 basis points to 10.75 per cent, less than the 75 points expected by most market economists, although a sizeable minority had called for a 50 point rise
