for all of you seasoned traders/investors, how long did it take you to be truly knowledgeable and comfortable enough in your trading?
i'm sure even the Gurus started out with some rough times

I think of myself now as a seasoned trader, as I am covered in Lemon Pepper, Tarragon, and light marsala wine sauce.

It took me about a year to really get comfortable in trading, mainly due to refining my methodology. I started with an adequate stake to make a few mistakes without changing my lifestyle, which I feel is an absolute requirement. Others, in different circumstances feel you can do this with less of a stake to start out, or put more at risk money into the trading plan. I would have my IRA's and 401k's fully funded before getting into this. If you are playing with "Widows and Orphans" funds you will be distracted by worry to get into the comfort zone.
I also started trading full time with 25yrs of experience in investing, which is both an advantage (knowing the terminology and products of the market) and a disadvantage (being indoctrinated into the buy and hold mentality by my brokers and the media).

not really sure as to the time frame it took me but the most important aspect is to stick to a method consistently. consistency is key to everything. attempting to constantly tweak a method will usually lead to the downfall
