After the market closed my account was showing 200 shares that I thought I had sold earlier so I sold them after hours and they disappeared from the positions screen. Now tonight I log back in and my postions screen is showing -200 shares of the same stock.

I had several problems with Elite and trade execution times today like 15 minutes after I entered it. I am new to using Scottrade so can anyone tell me why it would show up as a negative number. Thanks.

Do you have a margin account,, It seems like you ended up shorting 200 shares.

yep it sounds like you sold it twice...

your position screen probably didnt update properly... so when you sold again in the after market, you ended up short selling... nothing you can really do to fix it but maybe you can call your broker and have them pick up the commission on the overall trade

Well, you probably want to think about when you will cover your short position. At some point, you need to buy back the 200 shares you shorted.

If the shares continued to decrease in value, you may have fallen into a profit by accident. :cool2:

I am watching the futures for today, and without knowing the specific position, you could have sold yourself into a loss.
