Nope, I've grown quite fond of my appendages and don't want to chance being beheaded because I'm an "infidel."

Gorgeous ancient country, mellow & friendly people, amazing food & architecture, money goes a long way .... being an rude, bigoted, uptight yank would be a problem but not being a yank. they love talking to westerners, like most places they're very curious and enjoy open dialogue, not eager to punish visitors with personal violence in retaliation for assinine government policies & the countries mouthpiece pickled in deep worldly ignorance.

recommendation comes from a friend who went last year & stayed nearly two weeks. be prepared for a positive life altering experience.

*happy hookaing ... so many flavors ....*

Gonna do 2 weeks along the western coast and maybe venture into central. Been to the middle east, turkey once (busines only, no sight seeing). Thanks for the input...anyone else?

If Turks like Westerners so much - let them come to the West, I'd be glad to talk about peace, love, the universe, God............................................... ....
But -to go there - I guess I'd be too much of a "Chicken".

Just ask an Armenian the next time you see one how "friendly" the Turks are.

As opposed to here, where every conversation about religion is a civilized exchange of meaningful ideas?

LOL!! Nice point Gonz. The middle Easterners I have worked around and with have been great. Especially interpreters. Funny how our God is actually the same. Most are intelligent enough to brush off the extremist mentality (mullahs) and all embrace freedom.

Ok, add Dubai, Kuwait, Iraq, Sinai.......theater specifies the former soviet republics as middle east. what would you call Iran?

iran is a tricky one.. its more of a borderline between the middle east and the rest of asia.. since iranians arent arabs and dont usually like to associate themselves with us i dunno if id consider them part of the middle east.. (however they are usually put into this category since they continue to incite and sponsor violent groups in arab countries)
btw did u serve during the 1st gulf war?
