I thought this would be interesting...
How much do you spend on all of your software... whether it's professional charting tools, platform, web based software, scanners, streaming news, subscriptions to newsletters, etc...

I spend over $1k/yr. Heck IBD, Barrons, and the WSJ are more than 1/2 of that.

if youre starting out and dont have much money.. there are a lot of sites which will give you some free tools... www.tradeking.com is good and everything on there is free
if you're looking to swing trade, www.stockcharts.com has free charts which update every 15 or 20 minutes, i forget... they also have great dailly and weekly charts which are almost real time (refresh every 15 seconds) for $20-30/mo... which comes with a scanner and is very good too... the only issue with them is they have no intra day charts
ive also heard some good things about www.iqcharts.com i tried to check them out and the software is very basic but not bad... sometimes the chartingcan lag 1-2 seconds or you have to hit refresh but overall for a beginner its not bad...

"the only issue with them is they have no intra day charts"
I use stockcharts.com and they have intra day charts that the smallest amount of time is 1 min and you choose how often they update, 15 sec, 30 sec or 60 sec. The charts are not considered "streaming" because of the 15,30,60 second refresh.
