Seem we were a little surprised by DFS, MON and RIMM. Lets see what we think about this one.
HRB
Any comments on future guidance?...I say they lower below consensus.

I say they meet or beat expectations.

i voted meet.. but this one is a tough call...
either people have been running to hrb wondering about the stimulus or people are just saying hi to turbo tax lol
also they have a financial planning division, i bet thats not doing so well :P

I think they've been doing well in conveying their message that there's more to one's taxes than what can be done through software such as TurboTax.
However, I agree with your assessment on the FP side of their business. :)

but you guys realize that HRB makes Taxcut right? Turbotax's main competitor. so even with the DIY tax customer loss, they kept some with their own tax software

I use turbo tax every year and love it. Easy to use and guides you through every step. I think HRB charges way to much for the same program their "tax professionals" use at their office. All they do is enter the numbers into a program. It is the same as turbo tax but much less expensive.

i remember attempting to go to hrb this year to 3 different locations to give them a shot because i was feeling lazy to do it myself.. the customer service is horrible, you have to set up appointments but the people there are always late, basically they make you do all the work and they plug in the numbers, and you pay them.. i really dont see the benefit of using them lol

Regardless...even if they meet or beat, I'm expecting them to guide lower waaaayyyy lower. That will kill the stock as it always does.

They haven't officially lowered guidance at all. So in that case...they could lower it plenty.

I voted miss, because they still have mortgage exposure to write down. The conf call is going to have to address some issues of false promises they made in their advertising last year, so look for that to have a negative impact
Options player are on this to the down side but not as heavily as previous quarters.
In case anybody didn't know they changed the time of the report to before the open on monday. The conf call is at 0800 Tues.
If you want to listen, and this has a history of being quite entertaining, here are the numbers:
To access the call, please dial the number below approximately five to 10 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time:
U.S./Canada (888) 680-0890 - Participant Passcode: 73960248
International (617) 213-4857 - Participant Passcode: 73960248

I voted miss, also think they will do the gloom and doom conf. call.
This could be negative for the market Monday and Tuesday.

Hey Aiki, where'd you see the time change for the earnings release?
I was on the CBOE site and it's there, but I am sure it is available on www.earnings.com or the HRB investor relations page.

They just said Before market open, the conf call is tomorrow at 0800.
Additionally, the report is a good example (as was my call the other day) of why I don't play earnings except in the case of straddles. Basically I have no idea where the numbers will come out and the insiders can really sucker you if you try to back up your opinions with money. Not to mention, it is how the numbers come out versus analysts estimates which are another variable thrown in to the equation on which you have no control.

Not really, of course sometimes they may be leaked, but you may be seeing different times based on your time zone in relation to the news sources.
