When do the mergers & acquisitions begin? I smell it.

There are so many companies (GM, WM, WB, etc) that have been so beat up and look ripe for takeover. CNBC touched on this topic over & over again today and it makes perfect sense. With the dollar at very low levels, international companies can come in and start buying up American co's.

Any thoughts on this? There are opportunities to capitalize on buyouts here.

For the ones that don't have the cash sitting on the balance sheet, my question would be can they get the financing? Is the investing public willing to buy debt securities? It seems the only thing any of the hedgies want to buy are commodity futures.

On this same topic, who in the world is Nucor going to buy? They've got 1 billion in cash and issued 3 billion in debt. I don't think a company takes on that debt for shi'ites and giggles. They have to be looking for an acquisition. I'm long SCHN and recently sold out of WOR but may buy back in on a drop thinking these could be two targets.
