:banghead:What's next? With the market being unBEARable. What should i look into? Is ultra short ETF's a good place to hold a position? Or is energy plays? I'm a little unsure of myself in the current condition, is the dow looking at 2003 levels now or should we bounce off this look up before falling? any pointers......................:frown:

The DOW broke below its trendline. It's heading to 9,000 , NAZ down to 2,000 and the S&P to 1,000. I like round numbers. :)
I recommend shorting stocks or buying short ETF's on the next market bounce tomorrow or Monday.

Yeah, it's scary out there. Check out the Nasdaq 100 and Dow 30.
Every Dow stock down.

Only 5 of 100 Nasdaq 100 stocks are green.

I'm not sure what sector to invest in now either. The USA economy seems to be dipping towards the worse, not better. Oil is a bubble. Coal, steel, railroads, natural gas, drillers and agriculture stocks have had incredible runs. The question is can they go a lot higher in the near future? I'm not so sure. I'm bearish on most things right now.

Well they say 90% of stocks go down in a bear market. It might be a good time to protect some gains. Sell in June and go away. The SKF still might not be a bad play on any pull backs. I liked it in the low $90s and still do. I still don't trust the financials. I like buying dips, but I don't like what I'm currently seeing in the market. For now, I'm not buying any dips.

It is a worldwide recession, not just a U.S problem. Actually, compared to other countries, The U.S is not doing too badly. Today the U.S sneezed and the rest of the world will be catching a cold overnight.

Yes!
Energy is the way to go, especially oil. Expect $200+ oil and McCain nor Obama can do anything about it.

To put an exclamation point on this, look at my portfolio.
Today I was long oil and short financials/banks, real estate and consumers. Both the daily and total profit columns were all green over my dozen positions. Don't flick boogers at me. I took it up the wazoo before dialing things in.

Great find. That deserves some karma. I had a limit buy in for FXP which didn't go through due to it jumping out of the gate today. I hope it comes in a little so I can get on board.

Posted this in a dif. part of the forum:
If you'd like to trade stocks that do well when the markets are declining, look towards Ultrashort ETFs, they're funds that are short on stocks and you profit from them twice of how much the market falls %wise.
Here's a list of funds: http://www.proshares.com/funds?products=&fundType=
Scroll down a bit to the Ultrashort section.
Includes the long ETFs too so you can keep track of how they're doing.

Is there a short retail ETF? I researched SZK and it looks like it would be the inverse of anything from Coach to Coca-Cola. Granted most stocks will go down in a bear market but consumer staples like KO, BUD, and CL should stand to decline less than others securities in the markets.
Ergo, perhaps SZK is not a wise position ot take. However, with fear throughout the populace with regards to rising prices of neccessities like food and gasoline I would like to play it via going short retail however I'd like the safety of a basket like an ETF.
Any thoughts?
Or do you think there is a better sector to be short? In other words, which sector should do the worst in this bear market or which would you not go long with a ten foot pole? Can financials go lower?

SCC is short consumer discretionary. SZK was too lightly traded for my taste.
