STJ: Seems to be staying at support right now at 40. BUY?
AAPL: Wait till it hits 59 to see if it bounces again. If it does we'll have a W with support at 59. This 59 is weak support. So if it fails to bounce again here, we're wating until it's next support in May at 50.

Guru: What do you think?

"stj" = No
http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=stj&p=D&b=1&g=0&id=p04121190545

"aapl" = wait for a firm break-out over 85.60
http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=aapl&p=D&b=1&g=0&id=p04121190545
This will pull up the chart's other weak areas

Thanks,

I agree with STJ. If you compare earnings to the price of the stock, it's overpriced still.

However, wouldn't aapl be good to invest in now if it's resistance is 85 and it looks like it hit support at 59. There is a lot of room on the upside if this is true. I guess there are two ways to buy. A position trade is when you buy a breakout from resistance. A swing trade is where you buy in the dips. I'm looking to buy in the dips.

Has broken through resistance at 70.

Maybe this will clarify my point:

You want the Blue Line over the Red Line as much as possible and rising

Also look at this and run some charts on a few random stocks:

Has broken through resistance at 70.

(I own NBR)

look at how beautifully it help up the 50 DMA! Even though it was down 3% when oil was down like .5%, it went right back to the MA and held it beautifully. Its time to buy!

If you are satisfied with your metrics, go for it!

I honestly can state I love it when someone can win in this game, particularly if s/he is a Newbie as I am

My big metric is stacking the deck in my favor as much as legally possible, and finding pros whose advice seem to win more (e.g., the serious Cramer) often than not (e.g., the professional wrestler Cramer)...This game is an art and not a science

NBR:
I look at things on this chart too. I meant to say 72 was the broken resistance level. The price tested this resistance on Nov 4, Nov 25, and Dec 1.
Last week I bought this stock on Mon. Ask madcowdisease. I told him about NBR on the 23rd. It was one I bought and sold 3 times as it was going up on Monday. I should have held it long because I don't have 25k to be a day trader.
The trigger for this was when the price formed a nice W with the bottom resting nicely on 64, which was a nice support from Nov 29. It showed accumulation as it bounced here twice. The 6 month chart is the one I was using. The MA 50 has been over the MA 200 this whole time. I'm looking for quicker signals. I also like the slow STO a lot. When it dips below 20 and rises above it, you get a buy signal. When the price broke above the MA 50 and stayed there on Friday, this is another buy signal. The price 72 changed from resistance to support. This new buy signal is going to be contingent on crude prices.
I have been using that MSN sight that shows the highest rated stocks. I like it.

AAPL:
It has a support line at 57.5 formed on Oct 25 and Oct 31. It also has a MA 200 support. It bounced off of these last week. It also has a nice downtrend line formed by the lower highs of Jan 17, Feb 24, Mar 15, and 31st. This down trendline is about to hit the MA 200, which is support right now. This is a potential buy signal to watch for; i.e., it breaking the nice downtrend line and staying above the MA 200. The MACD, PPO and slow STO are showing signs to support this.

STJ:
I was just totally wrong about this one. It is just oversold.

Zyzz, I hope we're all winners too.

It looks excellent

It has the following going for it:

Our mutual liking of MSN where you can get a concise read out of the basic metrics even the pros do not argue over the importance
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/srs/srsmain.asp?Symbol=nbr
I like the Stock Scout to show at least a "9+"

Although Cramar does not own this stock for his trust, he sure loves it; ergo, good Cramar Pumping Action
http://madmoney.thestreet.com/index.cfm?page=lookup
He is too deversified to own but one of these stocks

It is an energy stock, and quality--and, and, and June 1st is coming, which is the start of the Hurricane Season, so by this time next year, a barrel of oil will be in the 70's

In sum: HOLD THIS STOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you are in--June 1s ah-coming

This stock is for investing, not trading--what Cramer puts his own money on doing

====

An RSI should be between 51 to 70...71+ is overbought which leads to profit taking or dumping depending upon the stock

What advance Newbie has not too quickly got into and out and back into a stock too quickly--If you're smart you catch yourself and realize you're within a gnat's hair of slipping into Day Trading or nanosecond trading :) (Before long will come the Penny Stocks, shorting, and options even before you are on the outskirts of kinda understanding the basic stock market)

And to be an Advance Newbie, you just got to experience holding a Falling Knife--boy, will you learn on your first one!!!

I completely agree, even though it is VERY volatile, everything seems to be going in its favor: stock scouter rating of 10, Jimmy likes it, its PEG is 1/4-1/2 of its competitors, PE is at least 2 less than theirs, growing faster, AND its resting right on top of its MA! I dont know a lot about technical stuff, Im trying to learn...

Oh, and thanks zyzzyva for posting on the weekends...I need some stock stuff to think about even though the market is closed:)

It is a time to work on your metrics, throw em into this pit and let others add light or darkness to em

I appreciate your replies.
I held a falling knife. It hurt too. CKEI was one hell of a knife. It has made me scared to hold a stock overnight--not good. It also tought me to forget about penny stocks and pump and dump sights. I was getting about 5 emails a day from pump and dump market makers. I marked all of them as spam. I bought 4 books and started studying.

I still have not fully recovered from this Cramar pump

Oh, plus some awful advice from the "Under 10 Dollars" newsletter

I swear Hard Knock U hourly is as costly as Harvard

At my present stage, I have the weird ability of buying stocks that flatline--I can help others okay, but when I put actual money on the line my metrics pick flatliners--not losers nor winners--To make them go up, all I have to do is sell the stock beforehand :)

I wanted to sell before lunch today, but without 25k I didn't want to be sidelined the rest of the week for too many day trades. So I watched my gains become losses instead.

Watching CNBC at 3'ish and the market is back crumbling! Why? Really? Oh, the CNBC Talking Heads have their usual hinsight, but it is plain weird. Oh, "jdsu" is dropping. "Gems" is not after Cramer's Fri pump, I will wait, thank you, from rushing in for a taste of "gems." I confess if "jdsu" drops some more, I may gamble on it. Cramer is good on electronic/electrical stuff. He says it is headed higher. In my world, I ponder is this another "cpst." His "jdsu" type stocks trade up and down within a range. I may try to time a buy at a low and hope it will go back up to $4, dump, and buy back on the drop for the ride back up to $4.

His for-real pick from his Charitable Trust I bought is going up! ("ntap"), but, of course, there is a fly in the proverbial ointment, the stock is still not back to what I paid. When it gets close, I am sure this stock will sink.

In sum, I am mystified. The more I know the less it seems I know.

I still think you need to set a 5% Trailing Stop and hang in there.
