Just curious I think Jim Cramer said he can't invest personally but he has his charitable trust. What about the newscasters on CNBC can they trade? And why is Cramer not allowed to by, who does he know that makes him unable to trade.

[Cramer] runs a charitable trust called ActionAlertsPlus.com. You can subscribe to the newsletter which describes the moves he makes for that. He receives the subscriptions for that service. All profits made from the money invested in that portfolio go to charity.

He's not allowed to trade due to his CNBC contract..

For example, he cannot short stocks in that account, and he cannot trade on a stock that is mentioned on a show for one week, or options for that matter.

Just some google search and found the info mentioned above.

I have spoken a few times with one of the CNBC commentators and he said the on air staff cannot hold individual securities, only index ETF's, and Mutual Funds. The exception is GE stock in their 401K's.
