No need for this Zap, like Sup said the guy's new. Also, since there is going to be a commission, he would be seeing $.09 per penny of share price rise.
To the OP (original Poster), you are going to need a 10% move up on a $10 stock just to break even. You need to consider increasing your investment, or playing very low priced stocks. The former puts more money at risk, and the latter put your current stake at increased risk.
Best of luck though, and welcome to the forum.

Don't rush it, put the $100 in an interest bearing account and add to it periodically, in the meantime use a demo account so you can get familiar with the market and come to the real market when you're ready.
Aiki, Do you think he should put it in an Etrade bank account and draw a little interest while adding to it periodically or would you suggest he do something different altogether. I would assume that you'd have a better idea of an interest bearing instrument.
My broker money market made 6% before the market tanked and still makes more than most savings accounts. He could also put this money in a no load mutual fund which will give him a reason to keep up with the market, putting the money into the "best" sector. Or of course bet it all on a hot penny stock and see what happens.

Actually, I think the Brokerages are offering the best rates for this sort of thing. Any other instrument will be illiquid, or more complicated than it's worth. And having it in a brokerage account allows you to begin investing/trading without the headache of transferring the account. I have always said it takes $10k to really trade it a meaningful way, but I understand the desire to start with a smaller stake.
Putting the money in a savings account, and adding periodically, while paper trading is a very sensible approach, and I agree completely with that strategy.

I agree that you must have disposable income to trade i first started at 1000 and have increased to over 10000+ in a short amount of time and still relatively new to trading so i don't consider myself an expert just make a couple of trades and need help along the way. but coming to your question try to get more funds at least a thousand gets you in the door believe me buy yourself some 10-20 dollar stock hopefully it goes up like SOLF and then your happy!

Listen guys, thank you for all of the feedback. Like I said ive never in my life bought or sold a stock. Im as new to this as you can get. I listen to sirius radio and love it. So ive heard a ton about the merger and I figured "hell ill get me one of them e trade accounts and get 100.00 worth of siri stock and when the merger goes through itll grow" But now they say I cant buy any stock under 10.00 for the first 7 days after a new account is opened. So in the mean time i wanna click buttons and see how this thing works. Its only 100.00 so im not worried ill lose the money.
Ive been reading this site all day and I have noticed that this game is far more involved then I first thought. Ima keep reading and try to learn as best I can, Thank all of you for the free advice. You didnt have to respond but you did and thats cool as hell.

The commission is way too high for my liking there. You might want to try one of the discount brokerages, I know there is a Questrade in Canada that charges $5 per trade, don't know many around here with that little commission but its good to start somewhere. Even $1K can let you learn about the market, just don't know how much can be made with that. I agree with the earlier point made by somebody where you need 10K to move around and see a decent return.
