I'm currently doing the stock market simulation program at my school. It's a 10 week program that gives us $100,000 to work with buying and selling stocks. Here's the stocks and numbers of shares that my team has:

Exxon-Mobil (50)
Consolidated Water Co (50)
Krispy Kreme Donuts (100)
Starbucks (150)
Pfizer (200)
Best Buy (150)
ITRI (50)
PWEI (50)
FDP (75)
NYX (100)

We also had ATI but we were required to sell one stock and that one lost the most money over the period of time we had it. Any suggestions for stocks that will be good buys for the next few weeks. I'm thinking Halliburton would be a good one. Also, it wasn't my choice to get Krispy Kreme and I keep suggesting to my team to sell it. I also didn't pick FDP or NYX. Any thoughts?

Forgot to add that the stocks have to cost over $5.00. Thanks for any help.

XOM Terrible pick that will lose money over the 10 weeks
Don't know the trading symbol for Consolidated water
KKD Dump it, going to a new 52 week low
SBUX Big loser! Should be priced like KKD, easily a sub $25 stock in 10 weeks
PFE Good prospect but sell 1/2 now and reposition at 17.00 or lower
BBY Ouch! News is all out on this pig...will be a big loser!
ITRI What, do you just like to buy tops?!! :)
PWEI 2.73 to 26.25 in 1 year! I guess you do like to buy tops! Dump all on any rally to 26.00! Major destructo coming for this pig
FDP Although the bottom isn't in at 17.50, I'd listen to the guy who picked this one from now on if I was you.
NYX Probably gets driven up on hype being that we are in a market that pays a premium for hype, start scaling out after the 88.00 high gets taken out, you know they will run this one to $100+, just like they ran BIDU on the GOOG hype, you see where BIDU is now I hope, just so you get an idea of what eventually happens to the hypsters.

Bottom line on yer port if you don't make changes....it will be down a minimum of 20% in 10 weeks, lemme know if my purrdickshun came true...assuming you make no changes of course.

Here are some plays with good long term target entry prices:
IPXL 7.00
F 5.50
GM 15.00
ENWV 7.00
DRL 5.50

Not sure they will get there before your competition ends, right now you should be in cash and preparing for a steep market tumble and a buy opportunity. Good luck to ya!

10 weeks eh? that is not enough time, your instructor is aware of this issue. how many positions are you allowed to have total and what does the end goal need to look like? ie. 10%,5%,3%( to make money is not an answer )
just curious of what your crack jack instructer thinks can be accomplished in 10 weeks?

In 10 weeks given time, I'll put majority of my money in speculative stocks...stocks that will grow at least 10-15% at least in short given time, that is if you want to win.

Yeah, my instructor knows that 10 weeks isn't long enough. It's not up to him, it's a state-wide simulation. Oh, and the guy that picked FDP just randomly picked that stock. Probably a good thing, but he also picked Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, XOM, and Best Buy (but we saw Best Buy on Jim Cramer's list of stocks to get). CWCO is the symbol for Consolidated Water. One last thing, these are some stocks that people have either told me to get or that I thought would be a good investment:
HAL
OSIS
PHO
NYB
SLW
AMID
JRS
LSI
BUD

Any thoughts on those? Thanks for your help.

Bud - not a good time to get in...it looks like it's at the top.
Osis - ok
PHO - on support pretty good, but there is no financial info.
NYB - bollinger bands are closing and oscilator on downslope...could be a sell off approaching...you'll be lucky if it's still at 17 in 10 weeks
- hammer for a candle on the support could mean a couple good days, but then a sell off will occur
- 3rd quarter of 2005 has a lower net earnings...not a good sign
SLW - I like it because Cramer doesn't...lol
amid? - don't see it
jrs - no comment
lsi - good news last Fri
hal - looks good
- positive net income
- been on a downtrend :)

I bet oil goes up this summer. Might be good to find some energy/copper stocks that fell this past week. This is just a novice's opinion. Maybe some others in here could help. Good luck.

HAL isn't a bad pick, but you have mentioned a stock that has been very good to me. SLW. I would sugest picking up some SLW for your simulation. It trades directy in line with silver spot price, and I still say silver will be back over $10 and stay over..also if the silver ETF is approved the general consensus is SLW will see $15 by years end.

Whoops, I meant AMTD. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your help.

I love how you guys are dishing out the technical jargon such as bollinger bands, hamers, candles, occilators, lows, all things we readily understand but do you this kid has any idea what you're talking about?

He just wants a "yes" or "no", "buy" or "sell".

My money would be to go with anything foreign. The American market blows and looks like it'll be essentially flat for yet another year. Pick up some foreign banks in BRIC - Brazil, Russia, India, and China. Japan might not be a bad place to put your money either.

G'luck.

I may not know all the technical jargon but you guys did help me out. I bought PHO, HAL, OSIS, SLW, and AMTD and only AMTD went down. We sold $22,000 worth of stocks and bought about $11,000 but I'm probably going to buy a few more shares of each. Also bought PMPIX. My team is looking better already but the official ranking for today hasn't come out yet so I don't know what place we're in. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

I'm glad if I helped a little. I'm still just learning, but I've learned a lot in the past month. I appreciate the help I've gotten in here too.

I guess if ya gotsta buy sumthin cause it's a 10 week competition ya gotsta buy sumthin. If it was me I would just WOW my instructor and go to cash and come out smellin like a rose when you are the only one that avoids the coming steep market correction. I'm sure everybody else is buying the same grossly overpriced crap you are coming up with too. By steppin aside you would be there to pick up da pieces. This new list you provided is just alot more overpriced junk. HAL?!! Are you kidding me?!! HAL is really an $8 stock masquerading as a $70 stock. At least LSI has a shot, it only needs to get cut in 1/2 and then lose anudder 30%!! Most of the other chit you be toutin needs to get cut in half..then get cut in half agin from there...then do that again about 3 mo times. then you'll be tawkin! *-) BUD might keep ya sane in da mawkets ova the next 10 weeks. Not the stock...da product! :)

Do you get to count the dividends over the period?

NFI
BUD
PG
KO
all have some "slight" protection with any big correction. BUD may be near a top of a recent period, but expand out to 2-5 years and re-look the chart. 50% of us beer market, etc, etc. PG....same consumer "base". NFI can be tricky. "Accounting irregularities" forced it down a month ago, but the public forgets and she's right back up there. Check out that phat dividend. Coke....and a smile.

Hey, my 2 cents. I'm 90% cash besides international mutual funds and bonds.

Well, for now I'm going to stick with what I bought. The only thing I'm going to do in class tomorrow is sell Pfizer and probably PWEI.

Whew! Glad I kept PWEI today. We're making some money now. I keep Pfizer in the hopes that it will go up just enough for me to at least break even on it, but it seems more and more unlikely now.

PFE was a good buy @ 21.50 level but @ 26, expect a slow down which means that its just bouncing off its resistance....so don't expect more than its current price. Put your funds somewhere else where there's much more growth potential.

I agree with the person who told you to get into faster growing stocks... stocks found on Nasdaq. I am following Hudson City Bancorp, this bank in New Jersey is growing its stock price extremely quickly and who knows, a buyout could always be in their future.

Good luck.

I was gone for a couple of days and my partners bought PSUN. I don't know much about this stock. Was it a good investment?
