The question: how can one stock be the excuse for the whole blame market go in the direction of one stock?

There are subliminal messages to sell or buy didn't you know that. It's through the satellite system. It doesn't tell you what to sell or buy, and they watch to see if the market goes down or up with their buy or sell signal.

One stock can literally change the tone of the whole market. Cisco last week, and no doubt Google Wed.

Those stocks can be moving in tandem with the underlying indexes but they can also move in the opposite direction.

I like to think of it as when the market is doing well their is a higher probability that your stocks are doing well and vice versa when the markets are going down.

When you follow as many stocks as some people on this forum, me included, you'll start to see the patterns.
