Just wanted to opine about the growing popularity of this site. I saw on the main page where it says the most visitors ever online simultaneously was 196. This occured yesterday at 10:06 PM, immediately after Mad Money concluded. I don't know if the popularity is a good thing or a bad thing.
Also, has anyone else noticed how there seems to be a ton of people viewing the site but only a dozen or so signed in and posting? Unless many of you sign in "invisible" that means we have a bunch of people lurking and skoping out our posts.
Lastly, how did all of you discover this site? Personally, I think I was searching for anything stock related and it came up. Ironically, I was not searching Cramer. Seems odd but I guess it's a testament to this sites popularity.
Hey Thierry, pretty soon and you can charge a premium for advertising.

I think I just Googled Mad Money and came upon this site. This is by far one of the best forum I have come across. I for one appreciate the knowledge everyone shares and the hard work Thierry puts in maintaining and upgrading the site!

Actually, the most visitors online at the same time was back in late November, when we had 391, if I remember correctly. That number was one of the only bits of data that didn't survive the import into the new software 2 weeks ago.
The popularity should be a good thing - a lot of people don't register until they have lurked for a while. I have set the forum up so that you see fewer ads when you are logged in, so the guests pay a slight premium for not signing in. (There is a small ad after the last post on each page when you are not logged in) Since you can't post as a guest, I don't see how their presence could be bad.
Don't forget that a lot of people are visiting the site to read the recaps.
The traffic went down after I changed the software, because a lot of the pages indexed by the different search engines have new URLs, so people arriving from those links are greeted by a page not found message. As we get spidered, and re-indexed, this will help the traffic get back to the same level as it was before, which is about where we are now.
I expect the increased functionality of the new site to attract more users, and the servers we are on now can handle about 4 times more traffic before we see any slowdowns. At that point I will upgrade the servers, which will be a transparent process for you.
The only way that popularity would be a bad thing is if the site lost it's intimacy, which I won't let happen.

I came across this site too just by googling " Cramer" or "Mad Money" I have current had a short stay but have learned alot in that short period of time, not just by the posters here but the information given by these posters.
I for one encourage the increased popularity, with more people come more individual views and expressions. With more people we may get a new section, which I for one was hoping, maybe an OT section. This may also lead those lurking, or posting to stay and post more.
In regrads to lurking, I lurked for awhile before registering for a few reasons and once I had the need for a question or liked what I saw I then went ahead and registered. People may not be logged in due to the fact it is during work hours, some people may just lurk for the info.

I just wanted to say that this is by far the best forum for stocks on the net, everyone is civilized (unlock the yahoo! ones) and knowledgable. Even though Im not into penny stocks, like many here, I always find some good investing ideas and information.
also www.philstocks.blogspot.com is a good blog for market action, etc.
lol sorry if that sounded like im trying to get people from this site onto that one, but since Thierry has some other blogs in his profile, I figure I can post one as well.
Thanks guys for everything

I love this site as well. I lurked on it for about a month before finally registering and posting. I like the way the people act and openly share what they are doing (good and bad). This forum has been a great resource for me and is helping me learn in my quest for knowledge of the market.

I am one of the people guilty of lurking for a while before posting anything. The site is great, even though I take little of the advice, I like to see how other people approach the markets. I found the site by doing a mad money search on google.

good 'ol google. I think that's how I found this place last August. I only signed up to answer a question that was posted that I knew the answer to. I've been on ever since.

Thierry,
I'd be interested to hear how you intend to maintain the "intimacy"?
What do you think you mean by this?

It means personal, as opposed to corporate or impersonal. When things become very popular, they often lose their soul in the search for higher profits, or they are crushed under the weight of their own success.
I'll maintain that intimacy by staying personally involved with the site.

Don't you mean "lock up the Yahoo! one's"? ..... lol
We need protection from those types, need to slip on the heavy armor to wander around there for very long. Comparitively i find this forum is civilized, consistant, fosters easy back & forth dialogue. Very Democratic with a few passionate/opinionated posts tossed in for good measure but that's to be expected we ARE Americans after all ((laughs))
Thanks Thierry, for all your work. I hope this place continues to attract decent regulars which naturally keeps those rude, greedy pump & dump scammers at bay. I accidentally came across this site while learning about stocks online, and after seeing the posts decided to stay, there's a lot of variety which i appreciate, questions from newbies (like me) and helpful advice from regular longer term traders or well seasoned pro's.
Cheers everyone.
