By the number of responses I guess you can guess what most people here think of trading funds, its a personal choice thats up to you.

Not worth it. Better off if you trade etf's.
We trade stocks...and invest through mutual funds. Cost would be too high to do anything different.

Mutual funds are for 401a's, 401k's, 403b's, 457's, etc. not for trading, but for retirement investment accounts. That's my opinion. If you've got extra hard-earned cash, make it work for you in stocks.

I would first have to ask you is how comfortable are you with Risk? How do you feel about the volitile nature of the stock market? If you are comfortable with the risks then the next question would be HOW comfortable are you? If you feel nervious about investing or wary when the market goes down, you might feel more comfortable with a mutral fund that suits that purpose.
If you feel that you are somewhat comfortable with day to day activities of the market then you might go with an aggressive mutral fund to start, and then put part of it into the market. This lets you ease into it. Picking a broker that has mutral funds to offer and lets you invest gives you the best of both worlds. That way you can choose you level of risk/rewards.
There are some great mutral funds out there giving you diversification that you can rely on, and then you can also purchase stocks as well. The answer I think is a balanced approach ultizing both ETFs, Mutral Funds and Stocks in your profolio.

Mutual funds don't have the same price swings as stocks.
I'd look into buying Mutual Funds for long term investments. Not for trading.
