wonder what they did

IBM has been indefinitely suspended from doing business with federal agencies, according to a General Services Administration Web site.

The suspension was initiated by the Environmental Protection Agency and applies governmentwide, according to a March 27 posting on a GSA Web site that lists companies barred from receiving federal contracts — Excluded Parties List System, www.epls.gov.

No reason was given on why the information technology giant was suspended from receiving government contracts.

IBM, based in Armonk, N.Y., did $1.4 billion in government sales last year. Its biggest customers were the Homeland Security Department, Army, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Defense Information Systems Agency, according to USASpending.gov, a government Web site that details federal contracting spending.

IBM and its subsidiaries are barred from receiving any new government contracts, new orders under existing contracts or purchase card transactions, according to a March 28 e-mail the Homeland Security Department’s Office of Procurement Operations circulated to procurement officials.

The suspension also means existing IBM contacts cannot be modified and interagency agreements involving IBM cannot be forged, according to the DHS e-mail obtained by Federal Times
