What's special about this one?

madcow, there's nothing special about any stocks that I pick. I pick and buy strictly on charts and ONXS has a very nice chart short term.

How long have you been a technical analyst? What tools do you use, and most importantly, how do you find them? Just wonderin' since I'm kinda new. I got the fundes down and a firm understanding of Econ thanks to my degree, but I only incorporate charts to see if i'm buying at a top or not. Dn't get me wrong, I look at the chart for history etc, and even plop in some bollinger bands and look for hang men (I think they're called) and I check the volume spikes too. But ow did you get in to it? I couldn't imagine buying a stock solely on the chart. The fendes weih to heavily on my decision. Thanks in advance

I have been studying technical analysis for about 3 years and just in the last year I have been able to really grasp it and have really focused on a few indicators especially, understanding chineese candlesticks. When used with western indicators they can be a very powerful tool. The one common denominator that I have learned is that the market is all about fear and greed. Fundamentals are nice. Analyst upgrades and downgrades are nice. But all that matters is how are traders going to take that information. Are they going to sell on strength or are greedy traders going to buy the stock betting that it will go higher?. Either way, a chart lets you see exactly the sentiments of the traders. It's really amazing when you get to understand Chineese Candlesticks. Add the sticks to indicators like bollinger bands, linear regression, RSI, MACD, Moving Averages and Support and Resistance, and you get as close to having a crystal ball. Lets take a look at REDF, a stock that Cramer profiled on 01/24. Looking at a 3month/daily chart, the stock was creaming oversold on 01/23 when it formed an upside down hammer(a tight green candle) after a 6 day selloff(see the long red candles?). If that signal wasn't loud enough, it formed a doji the next day(cross). REDF damaged its vocal cords from screaming oversold! This stock was going to take off with or without Cramer's endorsement, Cramer just made it happen sooner and quicker. Those that bought at 19 and sold at 21, made a nice 10% profit in 2 days. Those that bought at $15 and sold at $21 made a 28% profit in 4 days! Fundamentally, what changed about REDF that it was a buy at $15, yet it sold off from $21 just 8 days earlier? GREED at the top of the trading range turned into FEAR and everyone panicked and sold. Then, around $15, that FEAR turned in GREED. REDF was oversold and traders stepped in and took the stock higher. Why did GM pop 20% in 3 days even after fears of the company going bellyup? GREED! Greedy traders bought GM when it was oversold at $18.50 around Christmas and took the price higher. Same with INTC. FEAR took the stock down to $21, eventually GREED will take INTC back over $30. I'm not as smart as Cramer or most of the traders here that use fundamentals for investing, so I rely on charts and indicators to help me time my trades.

Verify your day-week picks with a glance at fundamentals, and the NEWS!!!!! These are verifications of trades. Technicals get you in and out and provide the vehicle for the profit. Fundies and NEWS help solidify the trade. Have a goal in mind of your exit.....through support/resistance and stick to your plan. Also set a tight "bail out" criteria and stick to it. Lessons learned the hard way.....tend to pay for the future. Trading vs. investing....this is trading, and making money!!

Sometimes stocks like KKD pop with no news and ugly fundamentals. I found this in the Motley Fool:

Krispy Kreme (NYSE: KKD) is one stock that Nierenberg would (and smart value investors should) stay away from. Although new management is in place trying to turn around the business, the company has not released any new, reliable 10-Ks or 10-Qs. As Nierenberg wondered to Tom, "[Has] this company ever earned a real profit? And what return on invested capital has it actually made at the newly opened stores?" Without answers to these questions, it's impossible to determine at what price Krispy Kreme is a value -- if any.

Go figure

Agreed...."fundies check" just gives me a "warmer" feeling when pulling the trigger on many "G's" Speculation makes money!! Too much "fundie" makes me too leary for my own good. DD to all.
