View Full Version : "Stay Mad for Life" by Jim Cramer -- A book review

It is written in the style of his Real Money book
No new ground is broken, as if that is possible if you are a regular viewer of "CramerLand," particularly his generic shows
If you know of Dave Ramsey, then think of this book as Cramer does Ramsey, for example:
401s and IRAs are addressed -- Cramer prefers rolling his own
Credit cards are bad for your financial health
Various financial terms are discussed briefly
He list his favorite 20 stocks for the long term -- Let's do a "Lighting Round" and see how many of these you can pick he loves: cat, gs, cop, xto, rig, holx, cvs, mcd, fcx, hpq, glw, goog, igt, pep, pg, unp, ba, ima, shld, dyn, bby, dee
Unfortunately, he still does NOT explain the numbering (besides date) on his score board

He mentions his daughters by name, but I still would like to know how the "Trading Goddess" is doing (From his Confessions of a Street Addict, she made him what he is)

If you are a Cramer fan, then do as I did, and get a copy from your library, because the book is a rehash of Wisdom from the show (particularly the generic shows) and thestreet.com, so you can quickly scan the book

[The answer to my "Lightning Round" of the 20 stocks he loves for the long term does NOT include dyn, bby, dee -- Yea, he loves "shld" for the long term]

If you decide to buy it instead of taking it out at the local library, you can order it from our bookstore for a good price. (it helps support this forum.)

I hope buyers do buy from your bookstore!

I confess Chapter 4 would be worth owning for those under 40

He does talk about things here he does not talk about on the show, e.g., bonds and preferred stock

Thank you, Thiery, for another year of a first class forum...

I watch cramer and that scoreboard always had me shaking my head because I could never understand what it represented!

Yep, every time I see him I say "Jesus Christ is he out of his mind"

He is diagnosed with bipolar disorder and is on medication. He is "out of his mind."

I never miss "Mad Money," because I record it (as I do most commercial networks)

By now, I enjoy the show more for Wisdom that transcends the markets, e.g., the value of Homework in ANYTHING!!

Wall Street is fun, because it is a lab with "people rats and guinea pigs"

As an aside, two years ago when my mother was dying from colon cancer, Cramer helped me think of other things

I think the best book to own regarding investing has to be "Rule # 1" by Phil Towns

It is the book Cramer should have written for market freshman and sophomores--the core audience for "Mad Money"

After I got my local library to get me a copy, I then bought the book simply because I am constantly using it for reference, and the book addresses, for example, how to use Yahoo Finance and MSN Money's stock site

Towns says basically the same thing as Cramer with regards to Homework, but Towns is clearer

Sadly, I think Master Cramer is a troubled man who continues to spread himself too much, for now I see he is becoming part of "The Apprentice"

I remember sadly how Elvis ended up

People who could have helped Elvis burned out their Golden Goose

The really telling thing about Cramer is how he lets his critics get to him, even giving exposure to his gadfly critics, such as "Leonard, the Monkey"

PR people tell the "Cramers" DO NOT do this

I sense he is sliding back into that crazed world described in his true classic "Confessions of a Street Addict"--Not money, but insane Ego Masturbation

It is sad the Trading Goddess apparently cannot save him this time
