Happy New Year to All

Lets keep this Gain/Loss % to Securites Owned during the year! No options, Mutual Funds, Shorts, Puts Ect. I think you have the point by now.

It might be interesting if we post our biggest gainer or looser? This was a suggestion from Luc1 and I thought it was worth mentioning.

Let me begin this with my own account. I began activly trading in March of 2007 although I have been in the market for years. My total was a 12% Gain for the year including all fees, excluding Uncle Sam. There were none held over 365 days.

I know there are many Fisherman here so tell those stories to your local friends. Lets attempt to get a real feel for what a person can do on their own.

It appears that the local CD rate here is 4.74 APY today and CFC is offering much more online, imagine that. This is just a place to start comparing our personal earnings.

PLEASE KEEP EARNINGS IN % AND DONT ASK ANYONE FOR A BROKARGE STATEMENT Lets keep this Friendly if we can.

Managed a 41.11% gain for the year, with outstanding performances from FSLR and other solars.

Biggest winner this year disregarding pennies was my position in FSLR that I built up. Averaged in at 102.44 at the end of August and sold that bulk position in the 240 range on Nov 30 for a gain of 131.21% gain excluding comm.

Biggest loss %-wise was on IDMI, a horrible biopharma that I held too long and sold for a loss of ~70%...glad it was only a small position though, relatively.

I must say though...it's been a great year, through the ups and downs.

I was up 14%. I couple of bad trades killed me in the 2nd half of the year. I should have sold GW when Cramer said to sell above $8.50. I should have bought MTW instead of CSCO. I should have sold TIBX after their 1st Quarterly miss. ITWO was a bad swing trade pick.

On the plus side, INFA(my largest holding) is still doing well. I got a double on ARTG(sold 1/2 of my position, the rest is free money).

Winners for 2007 were:
ARTG: 86%
DISCA: 56.2%
LWSN: 35.3%
INFA: 24.5%

Losers:
ITWO: -32%
CELG: -24.8%
GW: -22.3%
CSCO: -16.1%

Of course, they are still not winners or losers until you sell, just paper gains.

3 things I will change this year. First I will own less stocks. I currently have 14 in my portfolio. I will try to get down to 8 stocks. 2nd, I will take Cramer's advice and have at least 10% cash available at all times to take advantage of terrible down days. I missed out on that terrible day in August when stocks fell hard and FCX dipped down to $67.00. I should have backed up the truck on FCX, but didn't have much cash available. Finally, I'll set stops on most of my positions to take out the emotions of selling. I think 2008 will be more difficult than 2007. Let's hope for the best. Let's all have a Happy New Year!

King, great job on starting this thread.

My "investment" portfolio saw gains of 38% this year...I'm very happy with it. This does not include dividends or account interest.

Inside the year 2007 on this "investment" account, only 5 stocks were held less than a year.

AHM was the big loser at 13%. Sold it as it began to tumble with subprime media exposure (eventually went bankrupt), but it was paying siginificant dividends to that point. Class action lawsuit for lost dividends is pending. We'll see how that shakes out.

RIMM: held twice. One for a 12 point swing, another for a 19 point swing.

AAPL: 24 point swing, 18 point swing, 3 point swing loss, 28 point swing (all holds were "scaled-in" once profitable). 1 position in the 180's still being held and scaled in.

VLO: 10 point swing, 2 point loss, 6 point loss.

MVIS: 2 point gain (hit 3 points unrealized, sold as it tanked)

The rest of the long holds were scaled into throughout the year. This includes, KO, BUD, TRV, CVX, DOW (trading range swings on "trading" account as well), and 5 others I'll keep to myself.

On the "trading" side of the account: Those that have been in the chat have an idea of my size and # of daily trades. 6-20 trades per day, 200-1000 shares per trade. I am a better "trader" than "investor".

I'll keep my trading stats to myself, but here is a great link to a similar trading acounting system. I am not the OP, but he has a successful system on a relatively small capital base. He will hit the century mark (100K) in income this year if he stays on track.

The Dow finished up 6.43% for the year.

The S&P finished up 3.53%.

The Nasdaq finished up 9.81%.

I forgot to add my small dividend gains to my total profit, so I probably finished up a little bit higher than 14% for the year. I'm beginning to like dividend stocks. :)

Nice.

I had a nice year as well. Better than money market and less than GS.

Only 6 posters of 6000. Great thread by the way. I wonder what a 25% response rate would actually show?

To All

Let me make an amendment to my post. I feel I have excluded many gains in personal accounts. If you have Gains/Losses in a personal account other than Stocks held for the year feel free to post them. Just state what category yours were in.

My apologies to those people that had gains in other realms of the market.
