I like to keep it pretty defensive and diversified. Occasionally I will swap out of the metals stock for a biopharma or speculative play, depending on the market. Here is my question:
I like to take on a "little more risk" in times of a bull market and would I be okay owning GOOG? I know it is a tech stock and I have AAPL, however I always hear it is more of an "advertising" play than a "tech" play. What do you think?

GOOG long is a great idea. I do not think Google is a risky stock at all. It has great growth and wonderful potential just like AAPL. I think it would be a nice addition to your already strong portfolio.

Personally, I would not place GOOG and risky in the same sentence without a negative. For instance -- "Goog is not risky, they are growing and dominating every other US company."
If you want some risk I would suggest to go abroad. Look at the oil services sector. I would suggest PBR. In my opinion this stock is going to be stock of the year in 2008 due to their recent discoveries.
But do your homework. I'm not Jim Cramer who will go out and suggest shitty stocks and continue making money off of being terrible at what I do.

I like PBR here as well, I have it in EWZ.
Merrill Has it a Buy, and calls it it's best Latin American stock. Colombine has it a hold. Morningstar doubled it's fair value.

GOOG may mimick AAPL too much as any downturn in the tech sector will cause both to drop. GOOG is a solid company that will continue to grow, as is APPL, if you're not worried about diversification by all means own both. However, if you'd like to be fully diversified I'd own one or the other. BTW, I hold shares of GOOG.
