Thats the Million Dollar question!
My best guess will be BQI excluding China and India stocks, and thats about all anybody can do is guess. It Can't be any worse that Cramers RAD pick from 2007?
What is your guess? You opened this thread so I think you should have pick also!

Opinions? Thoughts? Are we doing a "Picks for the New Year" thread here?
If so, I suggest we pick three securities to hold for the year.
If we want to pick the best securities to trade, we probably should forecast Beta values.
For my part, I'd like to hear some sector forecasts, and, yes, I'm willing to make some too.
Anyway, Pirate, this is your thread. What would you like from us?

For trading strategy I suggest two guidelines:
Watch the balance sheet! When performing DD, be wary of companies that will need "additional financing" to go forward, or even to maintain. Credit and financing will be a problem throughout the year, and not just for homeowners.
Learn to enjoy the wonderfulness of the short sale. Even if we just go sideways in 2008 — no recession, no bear market — a sideways market presents as many short opportunities as long. If the market trend won't give you a return, ya gotta make your money by trading.
I know, I'm still not specifying the stocks, or even the sectors, of interest for the New Year.
As Jack Benny would say, "I'm trying, I'm trying."*
*Historical note for the young 'uns: Jack Benny was one of the great comedians of my parents era. His radio shows overlapped with my youth just enough to give me some appreciation of his talent.

I'll take GMO as my speculative play for '08 because as the year goes on and they get closer to bringing Moly to market the share price should go up nicely. I bet you'll see 100% or better in '08 for this one.
For Lower risk I like GS. More geared to 2nd half of the year when the financials come back, I think this one will lead the way as it has for the last few years.
AAPL, MCD, get honorable mention.

Visa when it goes public.
WNR for a trader, great swings, I have faith in the ability of the refiners to malfunction, maybe one of the bigger boys wants more refineries?
CVX for trades and dividends.
DRQ with a 2.3B cap might conceivably be a buyout target if the drillers stay hot. What's 2.3B to XOM?
RIMM just hard to go against this one.

You just called my plan. I am waiting for GS to pull back in the mid year 08. I plan to make this a core holding but they are priced high IMO to what they will be if this market takes the downturn I expect.
Side note: Thanks for the reply!

I started this thread just to start kicking around the major themes of 2008...
I still like the global growth story of FCX and the Eastern Europe/Russian growth in MTL.
Tech will continue to run, especially in green plays such as CY. Don't be surprised when AAPL releasing amazing new products during MacWorld and WWDC.
But anything could happen. I mean if it's a clear victory Hillary will win, the healthcare industry will look pretty good. If Obama wins, the cocaine industry will look pretty interesting.... haha... (just a joke)
I'll be looking for a pretty political trade leading in august leading into november.

Pretty interesting website where you can bet on futures....(nothing to do with this thread though)

I would add that the energy sector will remain a L/T gainer. That said, I think there will be more of a swing this year [2008] in the Agriculture and Health Care sectors that you name.
The Health Care sector itself is broken down into several sub-sectors:
Health Care Providers & Services
Health Care Facilities
Managed Health Care
Health Care Services
Health Care Equipment & ServicesHealth Care Equipment
Health Care Supplies
Life Sciences Tools & Services
Health Care Technology
Pharmaceutacals
Biotechnology
I don't want to put you 'under the gun' here. But if you had thoughts about whether any sub-sectors are favored, or not, I would value your opinion.

Completely agree here. Not so much FSLR for me because I think it is overpriced but this will be known as the "green" year in stocks. I am in with AKNS right now and VSE could be a good play depending on how the elections look to turn out. Once Phoenix Motorcars gets their SUT going, which is looking VERY popular, altair nano, who supplies their battery packs to them will be an amazing pick. Don't get it this quarter, wait until 2nd or 3rd because the SUT's are just getting sold and ALTI hasn't yet begun making a profit but keep an eye on this one.
