When you do work here it is customary to be paid in cash. I don't think checks are used for anything. It makes for an interesting situation in that since we are paid in advance, we have more cash than I would ever have in hand in the states, and we have to get it home in either yen or USD. Much as I hate to be a cheat, it's nice not to declare it as income if we don't have to.

I just looked up the conversion from yen to USD...didn't know it off the top of my head...but wow,
that's quite a handful you got there...around $14.3k USD.

I am carrying bags, my wife is doing some lectures to Japanese Veterinarians.
