I had a co-worker go to Vegas over the holiday. We pooled our money together and parlayed a few NCAA games. Florida, Cincinnati, and Missouri quadrupled our money. UC barely coverd the spread (20 pts) off a Ben Mauk rushing TD in garbage time with 1 minute left.
In researching our eventual picks I couldn't help but notice the similarities between picking football games (or any other sport) and pickng stocks. It all came down to due diligence. UC played Syracuse who had 8 losses all by 20 points or more. Basically, when they lose they lose big. Pus, coach Brian Kelly is a firey guy who I believe was looking to make a statement in the Big East Conference after a very close loss to then number 3 WVU a week ago. Florida vs. Florida State isn't the matchup it once was and with Tebo looking to make a case for his winning the Heisman 14 points just wasn't enough of a spread to take the underdog. Lastly, Missouri is/was the better team hands down against Kansas. To make them a 2 point dog simply didn't make sense so we had to take the Tigers.
I good half-day of research and a little guts and we're both a few hundred dollars richer. Well, I am anyway. He pissed away his winnings at the casinos while mine will go in the bank the way realized gains should.
