Just watched TCM's "Elmer Gentry"

Were I a big time producer, I would reshoot this jewel updated for the electronic age

Creepy how accurate the tone of that movie still is

The big difference, if it was reshot for today, would be the total lack of any shame by the participants and how the flocks would throw money not rocks and eggs at today's "Elmers" even if exposed

ZYZ,

I saw the movie when it first came out. I had not read the book. I felt the movie's power then, and remember it now.

This is a drama that works on many levels. I'm glad that you reminded me of it. I respect that you, perhaps in another generation from me, are moved now as I was then.

Stupidwood is always eager to remake movie classics as if there are not a ton of new books coming out daily that would make fine movies

The tone of "Elmer Gentry" is still right on the mark, but today, instead of tent revivals, the focus should be on these non-tax paying TV based mega churches

What is sad is seeing how when one of these fast talkers is exposed the flock throw more money and not eggs and tomatoes at these snake oil salesmen and now sales-women

It remains me how the common English folk support ever more royality regadless what their royal parasites do!

Wait up! . . . the slight majority believe that the financial benefit to the country through tourism and national identity outweighs what they directly cost. Hence they're not considered parasites by most. "What they do" is simply to entertain Canadians!

Glad the English love it

Of course, we have our Imperial presidency, congress, and supreme court that cost us a bundle, but it is only in taxes
