the wildfires in california this past week were a terrible event. a perfect opportunity for a talking head to illustrate his ignorance.

rather then debate the severity of mr beck's faux pas, or refute the absurdity of his comments, i would prefer to concentrate on the ramifications. as a trader, i tend to value anything in terms of "last traded." immediately a situation involving don imus comes to mind. where is the public outcry from the californian-american community? where are our californian jacksons and sharptons? when will californian sensitive advertising be pulled from mr beck's network? the two major differences i see are 1. californian fire evacuees represent a much larger community then a collegiate women's basketball team. and 2. glenn beck is no don imus. i will not allow mr beck to be let off the hook with his half hearted mea culpa-

"Those who don't listen to the show … , let me give you a little piece of advice," Beck added. "You have to engage what I would like to call your brain. You actually have to think: I might be making a joke; I might be serious."

that dodging of responsibility didnt work for imus, and it sure shouldnt work for you mr beck. even imus had enough spine not to insult his audience with the obvious. glenn beck must be fired.

this is a response? i love when people insist you use your brain while utterly refusing to do likewise. keeping this in mind, let me simplify my above post-

bad jokes get media people fired. unless you can dodge the responsibility by questioning your critic's intelligence.

glad to see how eager you are to prove your intelligence, buyondips. congrats!

If people make stupid comments, people should just turn off and ignore. By calling for firings and blogging about him you just draw attention to him and make him famous in the same way that Paris Hilton and Britney Spears are famous; as part of the idiocracy. A person like Glenn Beck will lose his job when people ignore him and his ratings sink - not when people predictably rise to his pot stirring.

I've never liked Beck anyway, but it seems as if he is identifying an area of the country that he believes to be populated by people that hate America and unwisely chose the forest fires as a way to convey this. Now, using any natural disaster to appear witty and get your point across is rather slimy, particularly if you have a national televised show. However the part of his statement that stands out to me is the accusation that there are many people whom hate America, I find this to be absurd and devoid of any real thought.

Hate is a word with a powerful meaning, and is often used incorrectly as I believe it has been in this case or does Beck honestly believe that there are a significant amount of legal American residents that truly hate America? Either way it has become quite vogue to accuse anyone that disagrees with your politics of hating America, next thing you know you've been deemed an enemy combatant.

The first building lost in Malibu was the Presbyterian church. Burned to the ground. I don’t know the church or its parishoners, but I wonder if Beck thinks that congregation hates America?

The Presbyterian church is right above Pepperdine. Home to Kenneth Starr, Dean of the Law School. One of those “hate America” lefties, no doubt.

I have to say, just when you think this tool can’t get his head any father up his own ass, he manages another inch or two. Does he even know the politcal make-up of the San Diego area? Not exactly a “blue” town with all the military and defense contractors in the area. Perhaps he’ll finally annoy some of CNN’s corporate sponsors that TimeWarner will actually bow to (Martin Marietta, General Dynamics–are you listening?) and Beck will finally get the plug pulled. You’d have to think they’d welcome an excuse to drop this money-loser.

As a long-term neighborhood resident, let me say, catagorically, that the Presbyterian chuch has abosultely nothing to do with this discussion. That church was there long before Pepperdine. We morn the loss of this church. It was a symbol for Malibu that is, sadly, gone.
