hey this baby taking beating all due to mortage securities and fixed income lost in 3qtr. It might be bargain at this price... got my feet wet at $63.
its long term... should move back up to $80 by 4th qtr.

I think their Corp Fin and M&A dept should do well to recover the lost from fix income...

whatz your take???

Looks like Oneil might be gone very soon. If Fink takes over thats a great sign. Maybe more down side over the next quarter but if Fink takes over you have to think its going much higher over the next year as he can grow the business.

Maybe oneil and prince should both hold hands on their golden parachute....

looks like shake up at ML..
i think they need new blood to take the company to next level..
good idea on Fink...

oh well on timing, but I moved the money over to Yahoo.. nice call also.
I will be keeping eye on MER.... if charts show movement up, might go in.

getting absolutey smashed today. bill miller just released a note indicating that there might be value in these names. ive got to believe that there is another writedown coming in the 4th quarter for mer. a lot is going to depend on who they bring in to right this ship moving forward.

looks like all the financials are getting hammer big times.
ML their domestic revenue down big times due to huge lost in Mortgage backing securities. I see lot of layoffs coming.. black days in wall street.
look at Citicorp, Goldman, ouchhhhhhhhhhh.

Question now is, which firms are strong enough to recover from their lost????
those are the ones to buy back????

its so hard to say, thinking about shorting mer, i can really see a tech bubble type blowup in the financials coming soon, all these companies are going to have to writedown more assets, gs didnt even writedown in the 3rd quarter, their day is coming

Short GS at your own risk, they were on the other side of the trades that are killing MER and C, there isn't anything for them to write down.

talking about shorting mer, and i believe vinier from gs did mention level 3 assets on the 3rd quarter conference call, which are assets that would be written down, gs still holds a large portion of cdo's that they couldnt sell, gsamp trust, the high risk paper they couldnt unload at all, its made up of home equity loans on homes with no equity, its in last months fortune, which i am saying at some point gs will need to writedown some of those assets

Read it, you're 100% right. Doesn't look like nearly the numbers of MER, but it'll eventually find it's way to a report. Maybe the puts on the next earnings straddle will pay off. I am still keeping both sides in play as just when you think they're down, surprise.

your right about the amount, it does look like mer and c have much more in writedowns, please keep us posted on what you think for options strategies

MER's CEO Thain got fired.

$1.2 million to redo his office. Wow! That is something. He asked for a bonus in 2008. Even Jon Stewart's Daily Show did a skit on him.

You notice that Merrill Lynch uses a raging bull in their company logo? Perhaps they should consider changing it to a bull and a bear... so to be more balanced...
