View Full Version : Monthly Stock Pickers Challenge - January 2006

ChronicDDL
12-24-2005, 03:41 AM
January 2006

1 - Pick 3 stocks you think will have the best % gain from the first trading day of the month to the last trading day of the month.

2 - One stock must be over $100; one stock must trade between $50 -$99.99; and one stock must trade between $5 – $49.99.

3 - The open price on the first trading day of the month & the closing price on the last trading day of the month will be the 2 numbers used to find the % gain.

4 - The 3 stocks % gain/loss will be added together and then divided by 3 to find the average % gain.

5 - You may only have 1 of the same stocks as other members; members can not have 2 of the same stock picks, first come first served.

6 - All picks must be in before the opening bell on the first trading day of the month.

Thierry Martin if we get this game up and running do you think it could become a sticky. Thanks

you could call it " the mini portfolio challenge". a month worth of tracking might be rough on many players 8O .

BOOOYAHOOO!

We need a $100+ stock, a $50-$100 stock, and a $5-$50 stock. I'll play if you can go both long AND short!

xboilermaker

CBI, TIE, & WLS, what the heck, only a game, and don't need ten more days to decide. No demands for rules of engagement. I will play no matter what the rules, as long as they apply to all, and as they stand now, looks like a model of simplicity.

ChronicDDL
12-24-2005, 03:59 PM
I will not be tracking the picks daily; I will only be posting the final results at the end of the month. I will set up a webpage where you can go and see everyone’s picks and starting prices so you can check your own picks and see other plays picks. I run a similar game (http://www.chronicstocks.com/page6.html) on another chat board.

What the heck. I had a hard time looking for a stock over a 100. I like google but at that level, I think its already overpriced/overhyped; but you never know, they still haven't released anything to either boost or upgrade their rating in the market. Under armour was an easy choice because I still see a lot of great potential including Eli Lilly which has been great all year. Hopefully these 3 will make a rally for me.

He can play them short but the winner of the game is not the biggest loser even if you call it ahead of time. The winner is the person with the highest % gain; if his picks have the highest % gain then he will win.

Never heard of D J Stifel, but glad they started covering CBI, because it's my biggest holding in real life, and has decimated my portfolio the past few days. But not as fast as it's improving it now. Nearly 600 today, which puts me back in the black in real life, though still 4% down in Jan. contest.

Edit: Unless something drastic happens last 25 minutes, gonna bag $1200 today on this baby.

WFMI is really my only concern but if I am lucky some idiot anal-yst will come out wit an upgrade to send it to levels it won't see again for 5 years. Just like HANS. Watch dat pig drop like Jimmy Hoffa did over da side o da boat. No wait, Jimmy Hoffa is buried in the endzone of the Meadowlands. :D First destination for WFMI will be 60.00 based on the last major trend top on da 1 year chawt (split adjusted). See dat on da 1 year chawt? Can you believe that the frenzied idiots were so eager to chase da Cramer pump that they gave it a 20% premium over where it should have traded to?!! I sho do! I'm glad Cramer is around. It used to be that shorting was a high anxiety activity. Now you can just play the Cramer pump and short anything stock trading near a 52 week high that he pumps. watch what happens to MYOG after this run is through. I'm thinking 39ish. That should be da max fo this move. Then it is on its way to 15.00 minimum. Ahhhhh, worry free investing. Learn it! Live by it!

Well what if I did own BOOM in real $? I would have made lots of money and I can sell it before it goes down.

Looking at the last major trend low at 29.30ish, and da fack that BOOM may just rally off da buy signal from Fri (and the relatively low OBV of +500 which means there is more "idiot" room on da bus) I will even tell ya where to sell, just to show ya where me heart be at. :D The maxi BOOM should hit would be 38.00 and if it does get that high i sho hope it gets there in da form of a blowoff top. The 29.30ish trend low is a nonconfirmed low however. That means that low will be taken out at sometime in da future, probably before the month of Jan is out based on da fack that BOOM has a history of getting dumped in a hurry when everybody wants out. Once 29.30 goes there will be no stoppin er until 21.00, minimum!

Well if it takes about 2 weeks to get to 38.00 then you will retain last place in this competition. Congrats!

Well BOOM doesn't actually have to trade through 38.00, I just said that the 38-39 area would be about da maxi I would expect it to go based on the numba fo da trend low I gave ya. I hope da longs will remember that numba. If it takes 2 weeks I would look elsewhere fo a good chort. And it wouldn't mean that BOOM wasn't a good short anyway. :D I was just givin all da lowdown on da pig dat is BOOM. At $34 and change it is close enoguh to get to $38+ in a day if Cramer would just give it de ole pumparolla! You'd have to start gettin noivous if you was long BOOM and Cramer gave it da nod I'm wreckin. I sho wudd if I was long! :D

When it was at 24.88 I said it would close below 20.00 before it closed above 25.00. Now since I doan get anything right, why doan you step up and take me up on IMMU since you are so confident that I am always wrong? Doan worry, if you bet $50 I'll let you pay me off in increments of $10/mo. I saw the crap you be toutin at da price you be toutin it for a few months now and I realize you are probably strapped fo cashola!

How'd you figure that? I'm up ~11% for the month of january. Could have been a lot more but I tend to spread risk around a lot of stocks.

GLG +40%. Hmm. What did you say about that one? (I actually sold at the high yesterday. I think it has another 10% in it but it'll be slower from here.)

SU, XSNX, CWPC and other have all done well.

We'll see what happens with EXAS. I got a bit late on the game there and so I'm having to be rather patient.

IMMU. I can't be bothered to bet you money! But I think it heads up to 3.50 before it goes much below 3. You've got to set a target though.

Well if you be up 11% I guess it's because you avoid stocks you be toutin ala GTE when it was in da mid 3.00's and I said it was gittin ready ta cliff dive! Or do you just count yer winners and just foget about yer big losers? 8O GLG huh? Ya shoulda went with one of my gold plays, you would have been up 100%+ I'm glad you paid attention when I was toutin da goldies though. I hope you be payin attention and get out after the next run in da HUI!!! Me gots some super duper industrial strength goldbug spray that be gonna make em scatter, and splatter!

lol! 2worldz you're in too much of a good mood! Go spend your ONSC money!

Boo - you never touted the gold stocks. I think you were saying much they would drop about 2 months ago when gold was at 470. AAUK and BGO the next movers in gold, I think.

Anyway - quit! It's all good! I've said before that I like your bearish nature - I use it to temper my sometimes overly bullish nature. i just don't like the pleasure you take in selling yourself and laughing at others when they get stuff wrong. That's why you have a sense that people attack you - they're giving it back when they see you get things wong.

I haven't traded GTE for ages! I've had it on my watch list and i might have bought yesterday when it dropped to 2.50 but I didn't know why it dropped so much so was a little scared off. It could be good down here in the 2.70's again though as it'll return to 3.20-ish in a month.

Oh really? I recommended all of these when the HUI was below 220 and getting ready for this run: NXG, GBN, KRY, CDE, MNG, I'm sure there are more. I actually tried to buy KRY because it was the only one that came close to me tawget. I had an open limit at .99, it gapped down to 1.01, ran to 2.70, came back down at which time I lowered me entry tawget into da .80's. No biggie though, they's all comin back. My suggestion is to read every single one o me posts and you will see my call well before any of yuns guys started buyin. I would have sold to you guys with a 50%+ profit and then waited to chort! Now I say chort and you guys are gettin all giddy! How can I go wrong?!!  Oh yeah, GTE is on its way to sub 1.00.

Lilmikeybear32

How I came up with 9.97% for your gains.

I took your 3 percentage gains/losses and added them together, then I divided that number by 3 to find the % average.

-6.92 + 21.22 + 15.62 = 29.92

29.92 / 3 = 9.97%

Sorry for taking so long to answer your question.
