Im looking for an update on the deal between GE and DSTI. Todays action is either a run on asti's coattails or news coming soon , wish i knew for sure. GE is in the energy business but not many know that--Catalysts Taking GE to Multi-Year Highs (GE)
General Electric Co. (NYSE:GE) is hitting new recent highs again, although it may be worth noting that these $42.00+ prints are not new highs from 1999 to 2001. Nonetheless, this marks five-year highs in the stock.

There were some concerns on the street up until yesterday that the company might have some weakness in its consumer exposure in appliances and finance, but CFO Keith Sherin addressed analysts yesterday and maintained prior earnings guidance in his "pretty good economy" explanation. That has acted as the catalyst along with a FOMC decision to cut Fed Funds and the Discount rate by 50 basis points.

GE remains one of the few AAA rated debt rating companies out there. Analysts still have an average price target of $44.00. Just this morning, Goldman Sachs noted that the company is well positioned to benefit from leadership in infrastructure, across energy, aviation, transportation, oil & gas, water, and financial services. Goldman Sachs also noted that the exit from Japanese consumer finance is not surprising. Goldman Sachs does note that it expects investors will be challenged to understand all the accounting nuances "impacting an array of offsetting gains and charges across Q3 reported earnings versus continuing operations." Goldman Sachs remains with targets for earnings of $2.21 in 2007 and $2.45 in 2008.

Regardless of outside analyst calls, GE is a company that is just hard not to be impressed with. After a semi-private luncheon with CFO Keith Sherin in July, it was hard to not be impressed with Sherin's stance that "GE is a growth company" on numerous occasions. I would have classified it as more of a cyclical or income play because of the conglomerate nature. But Sherin stated that the company seeks a 20% return on capital across the spectrum and they review all segments with that target in mind. If that isn't attainable, then a divestiture of an underperforming operation becomes much more likely. If you look at what the conglomerate is doing in oil and gas now, you'll think they plan to get quite large there. Anyone hearing the entire presentation from management will dismiss any of those old break-up calls.

Any time these giant stock hit new highs, it is never out of the norm to see some profit taking. With a now $429 Billion market cap, it takes quite a bit of cash inflows to move the stock up. Nonetheless, it would appear that the floor is now much higher than just a month ago. It is also worth noting that stocks that exceed old highs tend to do that for more than just one day.

If dsti puts out GE news you will be losing your butt lol, look for 5 then 6 and back to 7 if ge news hits. Look for 10 if GE takes a stake in dsti. Just a guess on my part. DSTI is thru resistance and looking to run imo

Here is the story from june on GE and DSTI deal--After months of little or no progress, it seems to be all coming together for a little solar energy company that we have been tracking called DayStar Technologies Inc. (DSTI). Late last week it was reported by the Albany Times Union, a local paper that has tracked the moves of New York based DayStar pretty well, that DayStar’s financial troubles could vanish in a heartbeat if the company is able to secure a $25 million dollar cash infusion, something that was hinted at in Thursday’s filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company plans to use the funds to construct a 25-megawatt production line in Santa Clara that would churn out thin-film solar cells, a plan of action that would include moving their headquarters to California.
Though the stock failed to move on word of potential financing, perhaps there have been too many false alarms in the past, DayStar is certainly in play after Canadian newspaper Globe & Mail reported that General Electric Inc. (GE) is purchasing thin film products from the company. General Electric is one of many corporations beginning to work under a U.S. federal program to make solar power cost-competitive by 2015. General Electric is assessing thin film cells that have a wide range of applications and is looking to create a durable commercial product.

It is important to realize that such an order is probably not very significant and that DayStar still does not have the manufacturing capability to produce thin film cells en masse. However, even skeptics would agree that what’s most important about such a deal is that it highlights the adoption of thin film technology which definitely bodes well for DayStar in the long run. Plus, the ability to catch the attention of a major player like General Electric is something worth noting. That is why right out of the gate this morning DayStar is extending yesterday’s 30+% gains by $.59, or 10%, to $6.52 on very heavy volume of 2.7 million shares three hours before the closing bell. Average trading volume is usually just around 297,000 shares.

So with the PrimeStar/GE deal, DSTI is dead you think?

GE is working with a few solar companys and could help many of them if the price is right. Something must be up because dsti is going to trade over 1 mil shares today.

A lot of the posters here do not know how to post charts, and I feel it helps to see the chart of the stock we are talking about. If I have a comment I will make it but otherwise I am just adding some visuals. I believe that if that annoys you all you have to do is set me to "ignore" in your preferences and you won't have to see my boring posts!

DSTI watch the volume and watch for news. Hit 5.30 and looks to run imo. Once dsti gets going we could get an ASTI type run and when news hits we could see dsti really run. Looking for 6 plus with no news and 10 plus with GE news. Good luck and don't forget DSTIZ
